Games automatically added to my library
Greetings, happy Thursday! I have a really odd issue. I have over 2300 games in my Steam library. All of my games are on a Word document that I created like 10yrs ago. Religiously, I compare the total games in my lib with my list to make sure that they match. Unfortunately, occasionally, they do not match because Steam automatically adds new games to my lib without me knowing. For example, a few weeks ago, another version of Mass Effect 2 was added to my lib. A few months before that, Metro Exodus Complete Edition was added. But, when the games are added, I do not know what games were added because they are not added to recently added. Instead, the added dates of these new versions are retroactively to the date of the original game. Therefore, to figure out what games are added, I have to manually audit my over 2300 list of games. With GOG, automatically added new games are added at the front with other recent purchase. I have complained to Steam but with no help. I also contact Steam to see if they can help me figure out what game was added. Unfortunately, they can not. Between July 9th and July 24th, a game was added to my Steam lib and I do not know what it is. And, I just do not feel like auditing 2300 games. I know the game is a newer version of a game I already add. Again, it is not showing up at the top of "Licenses and product key activations" nor under "recent". Is there anyway to figure out what game was added recently without auditing the list one by one? I know this is a first world problem. I apologize for that. Thanks.

In the beta there is a new filter option for the shelves, namely "date added to the library". So you could switch to the beta.

Also, keep in mind, it's actually the game devs/publishers providing these extra copies. Sometimes with remasters and the like, it happens that they distribute them for free to people who own the original.

Greetings, thanks for your message. Unfortunately, that did not help. I audited my games and figured out the new game added. It was My Child Lebensborn Remastered and it was added on July 18th. I understand it is not Valve doing this; however, I blame them for not making it easy for me to figure this out. Again, GOG adds all new games, including extra copies, to your recent area. Steam does not do that. Moreover, when I contact Steam support, they are unable to figure out what new game was added. So, I have to spend hours auditing my over 2400 games to figure this out. I understand this is a first world problem but it is still annoying. Again, thanks for your help.
Getting games is not an issue. Play them or dont.

Free games are added to your account all the time because of some setting you agreed to most likely. I think there's a option that says something like " Do you want free games added to your account?" Or something like that. either way, I don't mind as it's just more games for me to test. I'm a content tester by the way so I do this anyway. It kind of makes my part a little easier to just have games fall into my lap instead of having to search for them all the time.

Next time this happens. Login to steam through a browser and go to your account details then into View licenses and product key activations. https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/

Hit F3 and in the search box type in complimentary. Any free game added should show up as complimentary on the right side of the page.

I use firefox so I don't know if the F3 command is the same in other browsers.

Or just use Control+F in the client.
