Loading the wrong game
When I try to launch Baldur's Gate 3, The Bard's Tale 4 loads. I deleted The Bard's Tale and tried to launch Baldur's Gate 3, and Steam downloaded and started The Bard's Tale 4 again.

I presume it's the new interface and a bad Steam ID on the game, but I don't know how to edit the Steam ID for the game.

Help! I have over 100 hours in BG3, and I just want to play it.

Are you launching it from a shortcut or from the library?

From the library. I click the name and start from there.

This might be a Linux only issue.

You can ask here... https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/

EDIT: Going off of Hotsauce's post, are you on Linux? If so, heed their post before mine and ignore the save location info as that's Windows-specific.

Try this:

  1. Back up your BG3 saves, just in case. They can be found in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\.
  2. Uninstall both Bard's Tale 4 and Baldur's Gate 3 (yes, I'm aware BG3 is huge, but you gotta do what you gotta do).
  3. Shut down Steam completely.
  4. Navigate to your Steamapps folder.
  5. Inside that folder you will see a number of "appmanifest_<appID>.acf" files. Locate the files with an appID of 1086940 (BG3) and 1091980 (BT4:DC) and delete them both.
  6. Launch Steam.
  7. Reinstall BG3.
  8. Try launching BG3 again.

Thanks. I'll try that. I have nothing but time.

The appmanifest files were deleted when I uninstalled the games. I started Steam, and BG3 said "update," not "install." It's downloading the whole game.

Did all of that, and it started to download the Bard's Tale 4 yet again.

I'm at wit's end.

Neither of the appmanifest files are in steamapps. Baldur's Gate 3 is installed, and Bard's Tale 4 is not. Both are listed in libraryfolders.vdf.
