Guide: How to make steam less demanding 2023 PC & MAC
As you all know, Steam gets alot of updates quite frequently. But Valve might not focus as much on the actual performance/optimisation of the app so people with older/slower pc`s might have some trouble with performance in some games. Thats why I come to aid the people in need with this guide on how to make Steam less demanding in 2023. Steam has alot of features and all of them run off the "Steam Client WebHelper" exept for consuming alot of memory "RAM" if there is alot of instances of the "Steam Client WebHelper" running, then it will affect your CPU "Processor" performance. Wish might be a problem with an older or slower pc. So I bring to you three options on how to make Steam less demanding AKA give your more fps in 2023.

So the first option in this guide is by simply changing some settings in Steam itself.

First option: (Can be used even if you have an okay pc)

1. Open the Steam client.
2. Click on "Steam" in the top left corner and go to "settings".
3. Go to "Library" and check the following boxes, "Low Bandwidth Mode" "Low Performance Mode" and the last one "Disable Community Content".
4. Restart Steam and enjoy a less demanding Steam app.

The second option: (no point to use this one if you dont have an older/slower pc)

The second option is something called "Steam mini mode" wish basically is an option that is already built in to steam but not alot of people know about it. This option cuts out the "extra feautures" wish leaves you with only the game library. Wish obviously demands less from your pc.

1. Make sure "Steam" is not open.
2. Open "windows run" this can be done with the shortcut windows key + R or by simply going to start and typing "run".
3. From within the windows "run" dialog simply copy and paste "steam://open/minigameslist" without the quotation marks.
4. Steam will now open in "mini mode" and demand even less then option one.

The third option
+ (HUGE DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE but)
- You cant view "store" "screenshots" "news" or even the friendslist, but this way Steam can pretty much be run on your grandma's toaster.

1. Go to yor Steam installation folder, this can be done easily by right clicking your steam desktop shortcut and choosing "open file location".
2. Create a new txt file (right clicking anywhere in the steam file location and going to "new" and selecting text document"
3. in the txt file "text document" copy and paste the text under, without quotation marks.

"start steam.exe -dev -console -nofriendsui -no-dwrite -nointro -nobigpicture -nofasthtml -nocrashmonitor -noshaders -no-shared-textures -disablehighdpi -cef-single-process -cef-in-process-gpu -single_core -cef-disable-d3d11 -cef-disable-sandbox -disable-winh264 -cef-force-32bit -no-cef-sandbox -vrdisable -cef-disable-breakpad"

4. Go to the top left corner of the txt file and press "File" and "save as" name it whatever you please and add ".bat" at the end of the file name. Example: Steam performance mode.bat
5. Make sure Steam is closed and open your new .bat file and enjoy Steam on a diet.

PS. Steam might sometimes crash with the "third option" if that happends to often you can simply open your .bat file and remove the following three commands and resave it. "-cef" "-disable" "-breakpad".

This is my very first guide ever so if this guide was to any help for you, please leave a like and comment! /NadeZ

Unfortunately, as of Oct 18, 2023, option 3 does not work. You get an error message demanding you restart since the webhelper isn't running.
