Got hacked! Need help
My brother was playing GTA 5 online which I just installed from Epic Games, there he accepted some random request to join the apartment. After 10 min I got multiple emails regarding Steam transactions.

The hacker sold most of my skin and bought overpriced Dota 2 skin which I suspect he is selling himself. (only those skins which need confirmations are remaining)

Is there a way I can resolve it or I am still vulnerable to this issue?

If nothing can be done, suggest steps to ensure this doesn't happen in the future.

Steps to take NOW:
1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a trusted/clean device.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

Also after running malwarebytes, you should run AdwCleaner : https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner

And before running any of them you should run Disk Cleanup (build in windows tool) : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/disk-cleanup-in-windows-8a96ff42-5751-39ad-23d6-434b4d5b9a68

Steam accounts are usually hijacked through phishing. Unfortunately, these programs do not protect against that :steamsad:.

You weren't "hacked". If you have a strong password, Steam Guard, and everything, it's near impossible to get hacked. You leaked your account credentials without realizing.

Some possibilities:

  • Did a friend send you a message to vote for their team/tournament/pixel art?
  • Did you use any third-party site for gambling or trading?
  • Did you enter any giveaways/giveaway groups?
  • Did you try to claim any "free 50$ gift cards"?
  • Did you talk to an "admin" after being "accidentally reported"?
