Payment pending - steam deck purchase
Hi all, purchased steamdeck and docking station last night at 9pm using steam wallet funds. The payment has been stuck on pending since then. Anyone know why it's stuck even when using steam wallet funds ? And any idea when it will clear. Been trying to buy a steamdeck for a while so it's getting frustrating. Thanks in advance

Because the banking system is weird. They don't send money around the place, they send debts. Your money in your Steam wallet isn't like you imagine it to be, like some virtual bucks sitting in a virtual bucket. Your money in your Seam wallet is a front for a bunch of banking records stating who owes whom how much.

That's the "why". As for the "when", depending on the parties involved, anywhere between a couple business hours and a couple business days.

Guess it's going to take a good few days then. All the money in my steam wallet is from selling old csgo skins

... which still is real-world money, just with a heap of extra corners & steps. Valve never printed these funds, they came from other Steam users.

So they have to trace all the way back to the source of funds from when the money entered steam ?

Kinda. This is a somewhat handwavy model, don't take it literally, but it is kinda something like that.

same thing is happening to me as well, sold a lot of tf2 and dota items and paid the rest with paypal, purchased at 2:30am today (after cancelling once thinking i submitted some information incorrectly leading to the pending), hopefully will clear later today

back to report that the payment cleared at about 2:30pm today, about 12hr time to validate

For anyone guessing, it still works the same way as of 30th of April, 2024. I purchased using wallet money I got from selling an expensive CS 2 skin at 8pm on the 29th. Now, over 15h later it is still pending. Hopefully it will be validated soon!

Its a mandatory thing now ....so its not going away
