Any way to stop creating autocloud.vdf files?
Currently trying to install a 100% save file for a game (New Gundam Breaker). I’ve put the .sav file in the correct folder, but every SINGLE time I open the game (through steam, through the direct application in the local folder, even the one stored under “Binaries\Win64”) steam creates a new blank save “steam_autocloud.vdf”. I delete it. Start game. It’s back. Rename the downloaded save to the same name. Steam just overwrites it. Delete the autocloud save and change the .sav file INTO a .vdf file. Steam creates the autocloud.vdf save.

The game is so unbearable to play even using a hack client that I don’t want to play it at all. I just want to use it to kit-bash (it’s really the main reason anyone plays a Gundam Breaker game). Does anyone know how to get steam to STOP? I’ve turned off steam cloud sync in the steam settings, AND steam cloud in the games general properties. The game does use Easy-Anti-Cheat if that helps/hinders.

What exactly is the problem with that file? Does the game not load the save or something? Have you checked if the save works?
The Autocloud file works but it has very little progress (as in like 1 level), the 100% file I want to use has all levels done and has all the parts unlocked and stored

... and here I was, thinking of this as a metafile. Interesting!
There’s clearly a file saved SOMEWHERE but I don’t know where, because I do remember when I was trying to do this a while ago and I did a level on the autocloud file, and it’s clearly loading that for some reason

If you're trying to use someone else save file in your game, you have to disable cloud save, or replace file when you launch the game before it reads the save file.

How cloud save works.

- If cloud save enable see that you have a save uploaded, it downloads replacing what there to keep things sync.

- If cloud save enable see that you have save that newer than what on the cloud it may ask which one you want to keep for local, or cloud, if select local it upload that save replacing what on the cloud, if select cloud it replaces what on your local from the cloud.

- If you want to upload custom save, or someone else save as your own, you have to start game, replace the files, then shutdown game, this will cause steam cloud to upload that replace files to the cloud, and treat it as your own.

PLEASE NOTE, there some people that alter save that don't work correctly, don't provide the correct save, or didn't give you all the save files, or rename them to cause confusion without explaining it to others, another issue is rare, but unlikely to happen, if there an issue how saves are done between legit, and priate copy that may be the reason why things not working as they should.

My advice, make a save 1st, then do the process to replace the game save.

- If you want to keep your cloud save, just turrn off cloud save, then replace save.

- If you want to replace on your cloud save, run game, replace files, shutdown game, that it.

Interesting, I’ll try that in the morning. It’s 1:15 am and I need sleep! Probably would be good to be actually mentally there for something like this lol
So I tried what you said and I find this very interesting. The save I want to use correctly saved to the steam cloud, and if I delete and clear the saves folder it’s automatically put back in. HOWEVER every time I start the game, the autocloud file is STILL created, even tho the steam cloud gave a file that would work

Is there a problem with "autocloud.vdf" like why do you need it gone? FYI it doesn't do anything towards the game, nor your save you use with the game, it for Steam cloud.

This is what in "autocloud.vdf" file.
"steam_autocloud.vdf" { "accountid" "your id here" }

Was there something in that causing you a problem?
The problem is not that the autocloud file does not work, it’s that I don’t WANT that file. It has only like a single level done with the game (meaning it’s a file saved SOMEWHERE and not a file created automatically with no progress like I started the game for the first time), but the save I’m trying to use has 100% of the game done. The autocloud loads the game just fine, it’s just not the file I want to use

This file is REQUIRED for Steam Cloud to work. It helps identifying which local saves are in sync with the cloud and which aren't and for which user. It contains the Steam64 ID to identify which saves belong to whom.

I see. Is there any way to overwrite what’s in the file to be the save I’m trying to use?

No, there is not. But you can download your saves here and reuse them as local saves if the game supports it.
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

To get to that menu: Help -> Steam Support -> My Account -> Data Related to Your Steam Account -> Uploaded Content -> Steam Cloud

To DELETE a cloud save from Steam's cloud itself, the game in question must offer this functionality separately. This cannot be done from the Steam client itself. Deletions of saves within cloud capable games are usually synced as well.

If you are a citizen of the EU, you may have leverage via Support by performing a GDPR partial deletion request under Article 17.

You do understand what I just said it has 0% nothing to do with game save, or how game read the save, it there for Steam cloud to flag the Steam system, not the game, nor it save file how it works.

Removing it does nothing for you, even if it gone whatever issue you're having is still gonna be there as again autocloud has nothing to do with game for how it reads the game save file.

Now are you placing the game save file here?
%LOCALAPPDATA%\NewGundamBreaker\Saved\SaveGames\

Copy that address above, press Ctrl + R, this open your run command, paste that, and it will open a folder where you need to be, ensure that where you place your game save file.

Now where did you get this save file?
Ah HA! That was my problem! I was putting it in the wrong saves location! I was putting it in the folder under \steam\steamapps\…\SaveGames instead of that. I didn’t even know that file existed! Thank you very much, now the file is working perfectly
