Error E20 and E2 Cannot login to steam

I've already submitted a support ticket for this issue but as I'm waiting for a response I'm trying to figure out what's going on.

I want to preface this by saying its not my antivirus software---literally scanned the steam app with it and it doesn't show any issues. Yesterday my antivirus flagged a game I downloaded from Steam as a virus--i uninstalled that and so far no issues. There's no viruses on my pc either, so clearly that was a separate issue.

But today, when I attempted to login, the client immediately went to "Something went wrong while while attempting to sign you in. Please try again later" with error code e20.

Tried logging in a couple more times and now I get error e2.

I reinstalled steam, I have tried changing the password on the site (browser) which came up as an error, and I've tried checking if its my antivirus (it is not).

Just a minute ago I was trying to log back in on here (the browser) and i got the same error e20 twice before it let me log in and authenticate with the code.

I see maybe a couple people on here getting similar/the same errors.

If anyone can help, please do. Thanks.

Edit: I just tried again on the client---it finally took me to the authentication code screen, put that in, but it sent me to another screen saying the same thing-now its giving me "Error Code: 20"

Somehow I got in! IDK what is going on but I just kept trying over and over and now I'm in. Didn't ask for the authentication code but I'm not complaining. What the heck even is this code?? I tried searching it and online it states that this code is most likely an issue with Steam.

I am presently experiencing the same issue. A few days ago, I got off of Destiny 2, when i tried to log back in, it said "can't connect to destiny 2 servers" and then tried another game and it didn't let me in to it either. I closed steam and reopened it and got stuck in the loop of "Can't sign in" to steam on the client, and then tried on the browser and it didn't work. Then after trying for a few hours it just magically worked. Now the same thing is happening again a few days later.

Here to bump this thread to mention that I have been affected as well. Cannot log into any of my accounts at the current time. I've also been constantly encountering issues with "You've made too many requests recently".

No idea what happened to Steam for it to be so crap these past few weeks.

switching ip address works wonder for me.

Yeah I've tried that. Various different VPNs too. Still can't log in on any of my accounts, aside my main one (this one).

I get stuck in a "CONNECTION PROBLEM Retry or Enter Offline Mode" loop, but enter offline mode doesnt start the client in offline mode and retrying doesn't do anything.

Same issue here, connection problem, tried reinstall, NO connection issues except STEAM, can log in on Phone & browser just not Steam client, so no gaming...

Looks like it's fixed. I get in to offline mode, after restart steam and it's get me into normal online mode.

Had the same issue. Changing the accounts helped me, one of them was working, other one still gave an error

On an alt here, have this same issue no fix, occasionally it will allow me to use the Authenticator to confirm me signing in but it just loads and fails. Hopefully they fix this ♥♥♥♥ soon.

Same issue here about 2 hours ago. Looked for help on the web and Youtube.
Before I tried anything I was able to reconnect. (and play)
The problem seems to be affecting many people based on the number of comments on the you tube site.
It has occurred intermittently over the years.
Please fix it Steam.

ive been having this issue all day. Rarely i will get in, but games that use my steam account to login (destiny 2) are consistently failing.

I deleted everything in `%localappdata%\steam\htmlcache` and that fixed it for me. At least, it seemed to. May have been a coincedence.
