Having Trouble With Logging In - Error Code e8
Have a family member I helped set up an account for a while back, and today they tried to log into the client and despite the username and password being correct, they can't log in. The error code we keep getting is e8. Can't find anything via google, closest thing seems to just be stuff about an error code e84, which appears to have been something to do with the beta client, which as far as I know they haven't been using. I can sign in on my own account, so I don't *think* this is a server or network issue, but I could be wrong.
Anybody have experience with this particular error? Is there a particular fix or will we just have to wait a bit?

Error code “e8” in Steam usually indicates an issue with the Steam client's login credentials or authentication. There are a few things you can try to resolve this issue:

  1. Verify your internet connection: Make sure that your internet connection is stable and that you are able to access other websites and online services.

  2. Restart Steam: Close the Steam client and restart it to see if the issue resolves itself.

  3. Clear Steam's web browser cache: Navigate to Steam's settings, select the “Web Browser” tab, and click the “Delete Web Browser Cache” button.

  4. Clear Steam's download cache: Navigate to Steam's settings, select the “Downloads” tab, and click the “Clear Download Cache” button.

  5. Verify your login credentials: Double-check that you are using the correct login credentials for your Steam account.

  6. Disable any VPN or proxy connections: Steam may have trouble authenticating your login credentials if you are using a VPN or proxy connection.

  7. Check your firewall and antivirus software: Make sure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking Steam from connecting to the internet.

If none of these solutions work, you may need to contact Steam Support for further assistance.

Had to head away for a bit and when I came back, the problem seemed to have resolved itself somehow; best I can tell there was some kind of issue with downloading an update for the client, since when I went to try and log in this time, an update window pulled up beforehand and then everything went smoothly. Weird.

I'm also able to sign in on the website but not on the desktop app (Win10) with username and password. However, I can sign in to the app by using QR code authentication trough the Steam mobile app. I reset my password but it didn't help with the issue. Hopefully someone from Steam reads this and they fix it.

Same problem here.
I kept running into this issue after catching up on 5 months of updates at once. Following the support wizard and recommendations here didn't help at all. What finally fixed it was doing a reinstall of the client, which let me login first try once it was done. A bit frustrating but no data was lost, just my time.
Same here in UK.

Login via Win10, or via browser works, login from Ubuntu doesn't work. Gives the "error code: e8" message but nothing else useful (even when started from a command line".
I just followed this, https://stackoverflow.com/a/62597227/383694, it appears that I didn't have some i386 libraries that Steam needed. I left a comment there with more details.

So I had to uninstall the complete program off my Windows 11 machine and reinstall to get past this.

Just had this problem. I reinstalled over my previous install and when it tried to start it did some updates, then I was in.

I'm on Manjaro, and I had the packages steam and steam-native-runtime installed. A while ago I tested the second package if it would run better, but there was no difference so I left this package. Today, I removed this package, and as I started Steam, it immediately loaded an update. After this, the issue was gone.

Another thing to try is logging in using the Steam app. I had this error, downloaded and setup the app to login using the QR code and resolved the issue in about 2 minutes
