1. Right click on said game from steam library, a menu appears.
2. Click on properties, a new window appears.
3. Click on controller tab, then select drop down menu to choose disable.
Now there no Steam controller warpper for the game, that means Steam won't give controller support for said game, it will default to game own native controller support if it has any.
There had been a bug where Steam Input would be enabled for the DS4 even when PS Config Support was disabled but they mentioned they hotfixed that a few days ago, so do you have PlayStation Configuration Support enabled?
(Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings)
(or can go via new BPM > Menu > Settings > Controller > you'll see 'Enable Steam Input for PlayStation controllers')
Disable it and then turn on the controller. The controller should now remain the default colour and mode of operation.
(The DS4 over BT has two modes, a 'simple report mode' that is compatible with DirectInput and an 'enhanced report mode' that can utilise the full functionality of the controller but is incompatible with D-Input. I know Rocket League wants the controller in simple mode, and looks the same for FIFA. Steam will always switch the controller to enhanced mode if PS Config Support is enabled or once you run a game which has Steam Input set to enabled. The way to get it back is have PS Config Support disabled and power-cycle the controller. If there is still issue it suggests Steam is still buggy and switching the controller when it shouldn't be - there are other workarounds if this is the case.)
This part sounds to me like the Desktop Configuration. It used to be enabled when PlayStation (or other) Configuration Support was enabled but now it has it's own independent setting in new Big Picture mode.
BPM > Menu > Controller > 'Desktop Layout' Edit > Gear icon > Disable Steam Input > Confirm
This fixed it! thanks so much <3
