Game won't launch through Steam, but will launch through .exe game file

As the title says, I cannot launch one of my games (terraria) through the steam launcher, but I can launch it through the app file in the games local files. When I click play, it says its running for a few seconds and then stops, but through the .exe file it runs perfectly fine. Does anyone know what the cause of this is/how to solve it? Thanks in advance.

Do you mean Play? through steam client?
Rightclick Steam and run as administrator.
Are you missing the acf file in Steamapps?
ACF file or appmanifest is needed to show Steam your game is installed.
Is it greyed out in the Steam library?

I apologize for not saying this sooner, but I fixed the problem. Had to download some DLL files into a few obscure microsoft folders, but all is well now! Thanks for the response!

Do you still remember how you did it?
I’ve been having this problem intermittently for the last 3 months and my pc is less than 2 years old (5900x RTX3090)
