Be careful with how much money you have on Steam Wallet
Recently I got my steam account hacked, I know is mostly my fault for not being careful, but the hackers have been for two weeks logging in and out from Russia, and yesterday they emptied my steam wallet, it was when I noticed obviously. They bought something in the market that cost 0,03€ for the ammount of money I had in my steam wallet, which is much more than 0,03. I wonder how that was happening without the use of my steam guard or any confirmations? Apart from that, Steam tells me that they can't revert the market transaction because that would mean that they have to remove that money from the thief`s account and that will creat confusion. This is so ridiculous, so someone rob me and because they are using my money is better to let them do it to not cause confusion, and of course Steam got their share from that transaction, so basically they rob me too.

So, yeah, be careful with your money on Steam wallet.

Users are responsible for the security of the account and all that happens on it.

That is not true, Steam have their own security systems that I can't have access or modify, so I can't be responsible of that. Is like telling me, you are responsible of locking your house, if someone enters and rob you because you didn't lock the door, we can't do anything about it and the thief is legally allowed to keep your stuff.
Yes, if someone gives you a lock and you don't use it, or you give someone else the key then you are responsible for any intrusions. And they aren't saying that the person is legally allowed to keep your stuff, they are saying that they are not legally responsible for your stuff being stolen.

That account used could just be another victim who might be able to recover their account. They might not know how much money they had in their wallet and suddenly having money disappear would cause confusion. If they just returned wallet funds like that every time someone claimed to have been hacked Valve would actually be looking at lawsuits if some of those claims happened to be false. Every single claim like this would have to be investigated thoroughly which would be time-consuming and expensive and could still lead to wrong conclusions and lawsuits. There is no way a company is going to take on that sort of legal responsibility for the sake of covering the security lapses of its users. That is why they take such a stance.

There are too many people who reuse passwords across multiple accounts, use trading and gambling sites (that are totally legit!), click on random links they have no reason to trust, install viruses and malware, etc. for Valve have to shoulder the risk of compromised accounts. And a lot of those things don't even have to occur on Steam.

Problem is that while some people are aware of scams, and phishing attacks, there are those that not, basically blind & deaf from seeing these warnings, or just plain ignorant, and willing to ignore such warnings.

Sometimes it requires a lesson the hard way, to become aware of things. I seen the most ignorant people fall victim, I seen people that far to gullible falling for it even if it was screaming red flag so loudly still somehow didn't clue in, it just that there always gonna be someone falling victim to some kind of scam, even if wording changed, or changed website URL/page layout few of the same people kept falling for it until they finally clue in what the problem.

Believe it, or not I had a friend that always try to act smug about things, and when I told him about things he shouldn't download due to phishing, and virus, because of ads he kept seeing appears on "media" sites, he went and done the unthinkable despite explaining, and even showing him example what happens using a VM, and still ask for help to remove virus off his PC, and recover his email. Sometimes may have to be hard on them full stop so they become aware what they're doing so they don't repeat same mistake, or to stopping from making the mistake in the first place.

Fun fact most scams are literally same pattern, you just change the wording, or layout, and people think it new scam. Goal is simple, trick victim to download *payload*, or trick victim to login via their server, or giving them said info, it been same method for 20 years, even with added 2FA, and all that, it all comes down to end user that holds the keys.

A fair warning, I installed Ghost Spectre superlite with Defender (oh the irony) to maximize my PC performance and also gaming experience. Used the toolbox to install Steam and BAM! My Steam wallet instantly got whacked. Fortunately I only had a couple of bucks but still... about 50 transactions in a matter of hours, buying and selling cards and whatnot. Needless to say I'm going back to good old Win11.

I warn people for years be aware of custom ISO, and installers that handled by other people, as never know if they sneak something in to it.

Other times can be related to people downloading from other places that "official/unofficial" group never uploaded to, or provided to said other sites, or torrents. Reminds me of a friend I had from middle easy downloading bootleg version of Windows 10 pro, but he has Windows 7 pro key that gave him FREE copy of windows 10 pro lmao.
