(global Steam Overlay setting is at Steam > Settings > In-game)
Check if it's accessible from the games.

This is the first time I am using steam input or Stem Link. Previously I just streamed games using NVIDIA game stream and everything worked fine using the NVIDA Shield controller.
Maybe there is something basic I am missing? Am I supposed to use Steam Input in a game that has native support for Xinput and XBox controllers? I thought this was supposed to work smoothly and seamlessly - but just doesn't work.
What am I doing wrong? I have tested it on fairly old games (Arkham Assylum, Lego Jurassic Park) - but I thought this was supposed to work out of the box on all steam games ...
Tested two games - Lego Jurassic Park and Lego Batman which are two of my favorites ...
ON DESKTOP - When I have steam input enabled for these games - the controller doesn't work at all ... only keyboard and mouse. I see a message that Steam is loading the gamepad profile - but the games do not seem to be taking input commands from Steam Input. When I disable steam input - everything works fine.
USING STEAMLINLK (streaming to android TV) - The controller is recognized. I can control the Steam Interface fine. When I select the game though - again getting no input at all. Steam Overlay comes up when I press the guide button - but no input goes to the games when I try to play. I then tried both games with Steam Interface turned off ... Still do not get any input (unlike on my PC which does work when I have it turned off) - and when I go to Steam Overlay to quit the game - Steamlink freezes forcing me to manual quit the Steamlink app on Android TV.
I checked and all the software seems up to date ... FRUSTRATING.
Any ideas what could be going on?

I own B:AA and tested with the gamebar enabled and Steam Input still worked as it should. Launcher doesn't have gamepad support (can still use the pad with Steam's desktop config to control the mouse) but all good after that.

Things look OK for points 1, 2 & 4 (point 4 OK at least for B:AA), but what about the third?
"Please try disabling any other overlays that interact with controllers like the Nvidia Experience overlay"
Steam Input should work for games that have native Xinput support as well as those that use KB+M, you'd just change the config/controller layout.
Anyway - all is now good!
