Steam Account was hacked and hacker emptied my inventory
On 13th February, my steam account had been hacked by someone in Russia. I started getting emails in Russian, all of which were related to steam account transactions. I didn't have Steam mobile guard activated, so I instantly activated my phone number and mobile authenticator. During authentication, I was still getting messages in Russian from Steam support. After successfully activating my authenticator, I finally started getting mails in English. Please note that my store region is in India and English is the default. After checking my inventory, I discovered that the hacker had emptied my steam inventory by selling them to few accounts. He also bought other items from the inventory with the money he made by selling all my stuff. He even sold my wallpaper and emoticons. Is there anyway that I can get my inventory back or even my money

Accounts are hijacked, not hacked.

You are responsible for the security of your account and all actions on it.
You failed to secure your account properly and now have to deal with the consequences of your actions.

The items are gone, so is your store credit.

Steam Support does not restore items that have left accounts for any reason, including trades, market transactions, deletions, or gifting.

You make it sound depressing. It's like god telling me that my sins are eternal

Sometimes hard truth can help those that need to be aware instead of wearing a blindfold thinking nothing can go wrong walking in back alleys.

What I'm saying is need to be aware what you're doing on the internet, there tons of phishing sites, and scammers looking to steal any info from others to make a quick buck, even if it for pennies, that why it's important to not hand your private info to others, scammers make stories up all the time to scare people, or to fool them just to get info, and money out of the victim.

sorry this happened, partner.

the thing to remember is

nobody capable of hacking steam is going to waste it messing with your account

they will get in, scrape the site of all the truly useful, money making info and leave as quietly as they can and sell it

what happened to you was more than likely phishing. somewhere along the lines

people either log into one of these sites that offer free stuff or trading

log into a page thinking it is a steam page, usually by clicking a link from a shady source

they gave their info to someone they thought was steam because of a scam

it is that or you had/have some kind of virus on your system. this is much less likely as phishing is the number one way that people are stealing accounts these days

make sure to follow these steps

1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/

2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

3. Change passwords from a trusted/clean computer.

4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

5. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

To add what above.

Here tips, and examples to help you give an ideal of types of scams, and phishing attacks that happens online daily that people can fall for, doesn't matter if you think it won't happen to you, it can happen if not paying attention, as some are very good tricks.

Here are the most common reason people get accounts hijack for any service really are as followed.
- Sharing account infomation with others. <--- Very common with impersonators, pretending to be Steam admin / support.
- Logging in on phishing sites. <--- Very common with skin gambling sites.
- Downloading / Installing Virus / Keylogger on your system.
- Using public devices that has keyloggers, such as cyber cafe, school computers, and etc...
- Storing your login credentials on a unsecured service that others has access to view.
- Using same login credentials for all your things, or using same login credentials on another service that had a data leak. Yes it does matter because even if it not related to Steam, if using same login credentials, hijackers will try to use those credentials to see what services you use with those credentials. https://haveibeenpwned.com/

The type of story scammers say to you.

- "Hey vote for my team", and they link you a phishing site link, and try get you to login.

- "Hey I can't add you, please add me", and they try to start their scam with you.

- If you're friend with someone that got their account hijacked, you get scam message like, "I report you", "you been banned", and whatever to try scare you, and they tell you to trade your items to them, or if you have a login to phishing site may have a API key on account that redirect trades, they ask you to give them money, or etc...

- If you already got your account compromise by them, they change your display name to banned, or whatever, your display picture as well, they may delete your friends, and try to spend your wallet funds if you have any, also trade all your items, but if they see if you have mobile authenticator attached, they play their scam to get you to confirm the trade to get your items off your account to their account quicker if they're able to trick you into confirming the trade.

I show you few examples.
