Because those Samsung 980 Pro NVME drives have known problems with the drive spontaneously dropping its spaghetti and running completely out of available spare space, leading to a sharp drop in disk health and ultimately ending in the drive locking itself into a read-only state.
That damage is non-recoverable by installing updated firmware, btw.
You need to upgrade to the latest available firmware before the problems start, or your drive is basically destined for the bin.
The latest firmware revision for those drives is 5B2QGXA7 and that fixes the issue.
Use Samsung Magician to check the firmware revision and update it if you have to.
