I need help adjusting contrast/brightness of steam games (kinda)- it's way off but i can't find any settings
I am brand new to the PC world so i know nothing. I have windows 11, using airlink and sometimes virtual desktop to hook up to my quest 2, but this is all beside the point, because my steam games look bad on both the quest headset AND on the PC monitor. The picture in general is great, but any bright object like a light etc looks WAY WAY too bright and blinds me and i cant see any surrounding objects. It's like the contrast is way way too high but only for the brighter objects and area surrounding. It's ONLY with steam games! Quest when playing standalone is great, PC itself is great. Arent there steam settings somewhere that allow me to adjust stuff like this? I couldnt find any. Thanks

Try turning the overlay off if it's on? That's the only thing I can think that Steam would have that others might not?

Steam doesn't control how games look, it's just a launcher. Brightness and contrast are managed inside each game. Although the monitor itself will have it's own brightness/contrast controls to calibrate.

But for thoroughness, what games have you tried.

What are your PC specs?

What monitors are you using? The quality of the monitor will affect the quality of the image.

Otherwise if you fiddled with settings or global settings somewhere in the graphics card control setting that could affect multiple games too. There's multiple ways to fiddle with or create issues at several levels in the system.

At any rate narrowing down the root source of your complaint is going to be the solution to managing it.

Thanks very much. I have tried a few games like into the radius, ultrawings 2, zero caliber. They all do the same thing - the picture looks good in general but anything that is the least bit bright is way way WAY too bright.

To be honest i can tell the monitor is irrelevant because everything else on the monitor looks great, like when i surf the web or watch stuff on youtube. the steam website itself looks great. only those games launched with steam look crappy. and besides the games look exactly the same (crappy) when viewed on my quest 2 headset. (fyi the monitor is like V upside-down T ZTA or something, sorry i cant read the writing but anyway it doesnt matter.) yeah the picture is the exact same kind of crappy on the monitor and on the headset.

as far as my specs, i have a powerspec g906 gaming pc. windows 11 pro, amd ryzen 9 7900x, asrock x670e steel legend system board, and honestly i dont know what other specs are important but a whole bunch more are listed.

I was really hoping i would not have to become a computer expert to solve this problem.... i guess i can go on a windows forum and ask how to change game-only graphics, if there is such a setting, since all the other graphics on the pc are great....only games are bad

anyway thanks for the help
