Is 8 cores good enough for the valve index?
I found a good pc that will fit the valve index fine, but my only concern is that it only has 8 cores. How well will it run with 8 cores? I want to play on the highest settings I can get within reason to what this pc can handle, so will 8 cores be enough??????

Yes more than likely.
There is an App you can run on the Index page.

Yeah but I don't have the pc yet so I can't run the stats.

I'm doing this from my laptop, which sadly isn't good enough for the index.

5800X3D, probably still the best gaming CPU on the market only has 8 cores.

Well 8 cores exceeds the system requirements so the 'index ready' app will just give it a tick and tell you you're index ready anyway.

What you need to remember is that any software you run on it will have it's own system requirements which can exceed the Index's own.

So you might want to give more details of the PC, e.g. what the processor actually is, what graphics card it comes with etc... if you want people to confirm it's a good PC for running stuff at high settings.

Depends on the quality of the cores.
Doesn't help if it's 8 cores, if it is a low powered ARM CPU running with 5 Watt USB power.

Cores alone are not a useful metric to decide if a system is VR ready or not.

What are the full system specs?

OK so it seems it comes with a 5000 series Ryzen, so yes it's a decent PC and will work very well with the Index.

You might want to search youtube for performance tests on similar rigs, here's one for Half Life Alyx. Not sure if the CPU is exactly yours but it'll give you an idea.

A Valve Index will REQUIRE a DisplayPort connection. Does your laptop have one that is DIRECTLY connected to the dedicated videocard over a MUX switch? Tunneling through the integrated videochip is not an option.

If not, expect error messages to pile up.

Thank you so much. The video showed me a lot. I have better specs than the guy in the video, so I should be good to go.

Glad to hear it, just make sure you check the display port point Cathulu made before you spend the money on the Index.
