Still, in general, for a mouse-controlled game, it would be rather cumbersome to allow it to be a window on the desktop and have the mouse pointer leave it. That's probably why they somehow restrict pointer movement.
You can probably alt-tab out of it.
If game support changing window type you select that, not game resolution, as resolution renders the game in said resolution, not change it from full screen.
