Are you just using the controller and finding the d-pad doesn't function?
If so you could see if defining it is successful.
- Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings
- Select the controller > Define Layout
Or is that what you are trying and finding the mapper is not registering D-pad and can't bind it?
Or perhaps it's an axis, if so try and map it to Left Stick X and Left Stick Y.
=====================
Now i test it with Giana Sisters 2D in Steam. Works fine. Ingame settings correct define directions.
But in Demons of Asteborg Demo - doesnt.
In Duck Tales Remastered controls detect only up/down directions, left/right - not.
Blade Assault - not detect any buttons, even action and in ingame settings too.
Mercenary Kings: works only if i disable Steam input setting for thss game. But in this i dont know how i can redefine control.
Fallen Knight: the same as Mercenary Kings - works only if i disable Steam input.
Its good, but if no ingame settings with redefine control?
Plus Demons of Asteborg still not work even when i launch bypass Steam.
You have an option to use Steam's new mapping system in the beta client but with the current, in Define Layout, map the d-pad to Left Stick X and Left Stick Y.
Now Mercenary Kings and Fallen Knight should be OK with Steam Input enabled (as well as disabled) and you can use Steam's configuration tools to redefine things. If you didn't know where to access that: enable Steam Input > Right-click the game in your Steam Library > Manage > Controller Layout > Edit Layout.
For Duck Tales was that with Steam Input enabled or disabled? Or same outcome regardless of the Steam Input setting?
For Blade Assualt, I don't know the reason. I would assume the game has native Xinput support. Try it with Steam Input disabled via the override if you didn't already do so (Right-click the game in Steam Library > Properties > Controller > select Disable Steam Input). A quick search on their forums and some posts are saying different things (connect controller then launch game / launch game then connect...) https://steamcommunity.com/app/1367300/discussions/0/3725071921953991525/
I tried the Demons of Asteborg demo and it doesn't use Left Stick by default, it uses the d-pad.
You can redefine controls via Steam's Controller Layout (change Left Stick to output as D-pad), or use the in-game mapper.
In-game: Emulation > Gamepad Settings
I don't know if things will be the same for you but with my keyboard the Emulation menu only opened with the 'A' key, it wasn't opening with Enter.
EDIT:
Ooooh, it looks like something is broken Steam side. Trying my generic controller and it's not saving the redefine. Might be due to beta??? Gonna opt out...
It's OK for my Xinput controller though.
I dont understand a new redefine system, feels like alpha-version app - missclicks, freezes, no exit, accepts, etc. And i dont understand how i can switch control from left stick to d-pad via this new system. I`m not use Steam Beta, but i can try.
I use DS4 with simple BT-dongle and it works without problem: with Steam input settings or not.
