Family Sharing Save Question
Hey! My sister and I share a PC and we each have our own Steam accounts with Family Sharing enabled. We've been playing some games fine, but my save files for some games have overwritten hers.

Example, we have both played the game Meowjiro (shared from my sister's library) but only my file is there when the game is launched. We believe it's because the game itself does not support multiple save files. Here's my question regarding games that do not support multiple save files:

If one of us buys the game on our own Steam account, will that mess with the one in our Family Shared library?

For example, if I buy Meowjiro on my account, will it affect our shared library since we'd both own a copy? As I said, we share a PC if that matters. We both want to play and I have searched for the save data in the game folder but there's only one so multiple profiles are not available so I want to know if we can each buy games separately even if they're already in Family Sharing.

Make a separate Windows account for one of you.

Play on separate accounts. Games "nowadays" save in account folders.

Separate accounts also help keeping your browser data separate, your email, your photos, everything, really. There's literally no reason to share the account when sharing a PC.

I do too.
I think it is safest way.
Thank you, everyone. We'll make separate Windows accounts :)

You also need to have separate Steam installations (in different harddrive locations) if you want auto login to work properly. You cannot use the same installation.

Hey, how would this work exactly?

I tried making a new Windows account but still have the same issue even with my own purchased edition of the game. We don't have multiple SSD drives, just the one so what would I need to do to create separate Steam installations? I'm not tech savvy whatsoever.

When you install steam, you just specify a different install location, that's all. That person would then use that shortcut instead of the other one. There would be two steam client installations on the harddrive in two separate locations.

For example:

Person 1 has steam in c:steam1\blah blah blah This person's Steam shortcut points to c:steam1
Person 2 has steam in c:steam2\blah blah blah This person's Steam shortcut points to c:steam2

Each also have their separate windows logins.

Since you each have your own games, this doesn't really affect that anyway.

It is essentially as if the two people have separate PCs even though they are sharing one.
