How does Profile Awards work? Is it permanent or temporary?

Yesterday, I have 32 awards on my profile, and now it's 31. Is it available in a limited time or can the person awarded me, able to retract it back? Thanks.

They are permanent, unless someone refunds the purchase that gave them the points that they had spent on the award.
