Does Steam support Symbolic Links.
Is it possible to get steam to recognize a game that I already have via a symbolic Link.

I already have Swords of Legends on my D Drive through Gameforge, and it seems absurd I should have to redownload a 100G Patch to get the game properly integrated into my library. I tried using a Symbolic Link to point steam at the current folder, by replacing the steam folder with said link. The syntax was good and the link was created, but steam still does not see those files and wants to download this very large game, at this point into a folder that already contains those files.

Is there any setting I can adjust to Steam will see that the game is now in its proper folder?

mklink /d "D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Swords of Legends Online" "D:\Program Files (x86)\GameForge\SoLegends\Swords of Legends Online"

Honestly if this is not currently supported it should be, especially as most home computers use multiple drives now days. I think I have 4 just now myself, Documents, Games, Videos and the SSD for OS. I'm quite sure I am not unusual in this configuration.

TY for your time and guidance, any help would be appreciated.

Cool Thanks for taking the time Null. A little disappointing but it is what it is.

Note that windows itself doesnt' actually support symlinks so you use them at your own peril

Symlinking is more or less unnecessary now since you can create libraries on different drives. this was a solution to a problem that was fixed years ago.

Symlinking is not the 'solution' to using game data from a different install piont from a different methodology. This wont work anyway so using a symlink will simply fail anyway
