I need to reinstall a game that I inadvertently corrupted when installing a mod
I'm embarrassed to admit that I installed a mod to a game incorrectly and thereby corrupted the original game. The problem is that the game now crashes consistently after running for 20 to 50+ turns. I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the game, but the modded files are also reinstalled. This means that I am just reinstalling the corrupted version. I am now unable to install the original version of the game. I am willing to repurchase the game, but unless I permanently remove the game I cannot make a new purchase. Apparently, other games that were obtained as part of the same purchase would be permanently removed also. I do not want that. I have been unable to penetrate Steam Support's "help" configuration to seek their advice. Any suggestions?

Not sure corrupting game files on the steam servers is possible? This looks more like the mods being still on your pc and automatically modding the game files after you download the game from steam. If the mods are actually deleted and then automatically being downloaded with the game then idk

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on my problem. I manually deleted the mod's files and verified the downloaded game files; however, the game did not load. Other similar games from the same company do load and start.

Removing the game from your library isn't going to fix it. Steam's 'permanent' removal isn't actually permanent it just hides it better, you'll find you can't re-purcahse the game when you try as their system will tell you that you still own it. You can, at any point, ask Steam support to reinstate it into your library.

If it's a workshop mod have you unsubscribed from it to ensure it doesn't re-download? Even if you have it's likely there's a legacy file from the previous install that is causing the issue. You could try installing it to a different drive or directory to see if that helps.

So how do I contact Steam Support? Is there a phone number?

The mod is not a workshop mod. I will try installing the game on a different drive.

sounds like the mod left files somewhere on your pc

check the documents, program files, programdata. and appdata folders to see if there is anything there

Support can't help you with issues to do with mods. They are always "use at your own risk", especially if the mods weren't even downloaded via Steam workshop. Have you tried manually deleting all folders associated with the game. Sometimes if you uninstall a game it will leave files behind, like saves and user created files, and mods will sometimes add files to the game folders so deleting just the mod folder itself isn't going to always get rid of the mod.

Also have you tried asking in the forum for the game itself? If you go to the game's forum and tell people what mod it is specifically they might be more likely to be able to help you.
