What does this launch option do? -d3d9ex

Hey, I was wondering what -d3d9ex does in the launch options. Have read it's to reduce CPU utilization in some games, if so, is this true? Or does this command not exist anymore?

First and foremost, any command line switch has to be supported by the game. In other words, it's game-specific. That in turn means that this CPU load part is, again, game-specific.

That said, I suppose, this command makes the game use DX9 for it's rendering API, as opposed to whatever API the game's using by default.
