any modded game can also screw up game devs update if they did a conversion of Original game files, some mod do such or can still do.
Also, if your close to reaching max capacity on the drive where your library is stored, that will impact the speed in which a patch job can finish. As it's moving and copying data around to perform the patch, a limited amount of space means there's a limited amount of patching getting done at any one time.

and if you have write behind cache enable then it might have cause issue with save data, and why data is corrupted, and you dont want me to suggest data scamble that cable or disk or bus controller have issue, thats is a dark path you hope its not that, require hands on and write test, and NO OC pc.
