Download region
Hey guys I need help I just got my fiber so I want to use that big speed I do get some of it but it should peak 31mb, idm it being on 18-20 but I want what I paid for and my download region is isreal and not Jordan which is where Im from, why Palestine and Jordanians have to use "isreal region" as if we're owned by them, idk if it's my dl region or my internet that's not stable so I'd appreciate if someone can tell me how to contact steam support about the download region

You can change your download region in your settings. Any one will do.

Yep, what cSg said, sometimes the steam client automatically assigns you a download server that is geographically near but not your best link. Feel free to go Steam/Settings/Downloads and change it. note that your experience may differ for times of day or busy periods.

Short distance does not necessarily good download speed.
Internet routing is a funky business. A server further away can offer better speed if the routing simply has a better connection. Just try download regions until you find one with acceptable speeds.

Small tip: Do not exclude regions where it's currently night time, those are usually under less load.

glad we could help.

it's why I drop in here every so often, it just feels good to try and help. And because at the end of the day, google is a terrible place to go for answers.

I wouldn't say terrible, but it is sometimes hard to find useful stuff among all the "this is the ONE solution to all your problems" crap.

Especially stuff like download speeds which seem simple, but can in fact a very complex issue to diagnose and fix. So much stuff that can interfer.

Software on the PC, drivers for the network adapter, the local network, the router, the ISP, the routing of the ISP, DNS issues, global routing, server issues and so on.
So many points of failures and it's not exactly easy to pinpoint it if you encounter the issue.

i think maybe my net isnt stable got 500 mbps i dont even reach 15 mb on download sometimes , i did the convert it to megabit it should be 62.5mb/s , speed test gives me 250 mbps on pc 180 on phone idk who to blame ISP or the dudes who set it up did it wrong none of them even bothered to check the speed

I think a lot of the time the advertised speeds are not the same as what you get. I used to be on a 20mbits package for years, (and never got that speed either) and until the kids had their own computers and were playing games, it was relative bliss. So I never complained, maybe it's a british thing to not complain. In the UK we have an advertising standards authority thing going on that helped a lot, if it says 30mbits (which I now do get on good days), and you don't get anywhere near that speed you can raise a ticket and have a technician come out. We are lucky though that people can change provider easily - but the crux of it is that most people don't understand the service, and are embarrassed to even ask.

The big working-from-home shutdown has helped people to compare speeds with co-workers though by being forced to VPN and use video meetings for all sorts of things and compare. I still find it funny that my boss has worse internet in meetings than I do. Bet he is too scared to ask or shop around - or to just get someone help him fix the wifi.

That is a lot of variation, it's caused by contention, other people upstream from you using up the rented/shared bandwidth by your ISP. The cheaper your subscription, often the more people share the same bandwidth, but not always. But that's a lot of variation in speed. It also gets nuts over holidays, but I never see my 30mbits drop too much below 20 in busy times. Definitely compare with friends, but be aware, the better ISP's are smaller operators, and charge a bit more.

my area just got fiber i been waiting 10 years , well i was waiting for a certain ISP but they still haven't done anything only today walked up to my door with 4G+ offer but too late im in 2 years contract with different isp now lol im so screwed if my dad knows he blames me for rushing us getting fiber but i didnt really rush anyone

LOL, our parents are the ones who want us to be sensible, and make sensible choices, but 90% of life is making decisions that work for you today, right now, waiting is for loosers. It's undue pressure mostly, they just want the best for you.
We have fibre here now too, but it's a bit too much to spend, I renewed last month, after a year on a new ISP to stay with copper. I actually swapped ISP just purely to get a free engineer visit a year ago, which fixed an intermittent dropout issue. And 2 years is not that long, just look at the big lockdown, that's 2 years ago now.
