Remove partially downloaded update.
Does anyone know of a way to remove a partially downloaded update from the "unscheduled" section of the download page? I don't want it listed there anymore and the Steam icon on the taskbar shows half yellow to show a stopped partial download and it's doing my head in lol!

If you hover over the update, you will see a "X" at the same line at the far right, just click on that "X"

That only works for updates that are paused. You pause it, press the "X", and it moves the download to the "Unscheduled" section just below. There is no "X" when you hover over it when it's in that section unfortunately :(

You can uninstall the game in question, even though it isn't installed fully.

Use "uninstall" from the library.

I'm trying to get rid of a partially downloaded update for a game which is currently listed in the "Unscheduled" section of the download page.

Same as above. I'm not looking to uninstall a game, I just want to get rid of a partially downloaded update for it which is sat in the "Unscheduled" section of the download page.

Maybe a bit more context is needed. I have a Skyrim install which has over 450 mods. It's exactly where I want it to be and I have no interest in an update which only fixes being able to buy store mods in Chinese.
One day, instead of starting it through Mod Organiser 2 (which uses SKSE to start Skyrim and thus negates triggering Steam updates when you start it up), I wasn't paying attention and pressed PLAY on the Steam page for the game, which immediately detected a pending update and started downloading it.
As many of us know, new updates for Skyrim can be devastating for heavy mod users as it will break SKSE and certain mods! Naturally I waited until my heart attack had subsided, pressed cancel on the update download, and luckily stopped it before it finished! Now the partially downloaded update is just sat there and I can't see any way to get rid of it, and honestly, I don't think it's possible :(

You may be able to find where the data is on your computer and delete it that way.

You could try

Click on game properties, updates and select "Only update this game when I launch it"
Close Steam

You'll need to know the games ID. If you don't know it you'll need to open the appmanifests until you find it
..\steamapps\appmanifest_xxxxxx

Once you know the ID go here and find the download with that ID
Locate the download and delete it
..\steamapps\downloading\

Now go back to the Appmanifest for the game and find

the "StateFlags" line

Change the number to 4 so it reads

"StateFlags" line with "4"

Save and that should tell Steam it's updated. Load Steam

Thank you very much, this did the trick! It is still listed in unscheduled, but I realise now that it's impossible to get rid of it as Steam REQUIRES all games to be checked for updates upon Steam startup, and games will either a) Update immediately/have a date set for update, or b) get sent to the "Unscheduled" section if you have specified "Only update this game when I launch it".
Anyway, you helped me reset the update, thanks again :)

Happy to help. Actually got that from someone else on the FFXV forum a few years ago when the latest update was buggy as hell. Glad I remembered it to share. Have fun :steamhappy:

Uninstall works on partially installed games.

I tested it before I typed that. You can uninstall a paused download from the library page.

I do love when people ask for help and then want to argue.

I was in no way trying to argue with you and I'm sorry if it came across that way, I'm really not that type of person, my post history can attest to that. If you could point out the part where I was trying to start an argument with you and let me know, maybe I could learn from it and become a better person :)

I know that uninstall works on partially installed GAMES, but as I mentioned before (several times, then explained the situation with more context) I was trying to get rid of a partially downloaded UPDATE to a game, not partial download of game itself. In library or download pages if you right click the game update --> Manage --> Uninstall then yes, it will uninstall the whole game, whether fully or partially installed, but I was asking for help with uninstalling a partially downloaded UPDATE to a game.

telling you that your answer is completely irrelevant to their problem is not arguing. the fact that you can't take being told you're wrong about something without getting your panties in a twist tells us more about YOU than tells us about OP.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion
