Family Sharing Problem

Hi, I'm trying to set up family sharing and I'm having a couple of problems. I've followed the setup steps and am left with the following issues.

I have my Steam account and my son's (new) account set up on his new laptop. I have set up family sharing and have chosen which titles to share with him.

When I'm logged in to my account, if I turn on family sharing view, I see the titles that I have shared fine.

Now, when I log into his account, when family view is on, there are no titles in his library. However, if I turn off family view, then I can see my full library of games available in his account.

Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?

I have tried to deauthorise everything and then reauthorise but get exactly the same problem.

Need to change his family view settings. Sounds like you have it so that Family view blocks all games unless you have specifically gave him access.

Keep in mind if he's sharing your library he can only play while you aren't. If you start to play he'll get kicked out of the game/s.

Thanks for the reply, yes I've set it up so I have to authorise individual games.

I can see the 2 games I've allowed so far when I check family view from my account but but from his. From his it's all with family view off, or nothing with family view on.

I found a solution in another thread, maybe try that:

1. Establish Steam accounts for both parent and child.
2. Install games on Parent Account.
3. Enable Family Sharing of Parent Lbrary to Child Account on Child PC, using standard process.
The child will now have access to the parent's full library under their own account on their own PC.
4. Enable Family View on the Child Account. Be sure to link the PIN recovery to Parent Email.
At this point, the child will not be able to access the shared library titles while in Family View.
5. Use your PIN to disable Family View on the Child Account. Navigate to the shared library titles. For each title you would like to share, right click the title in the library and select 'Add to Family Games'
6. Enable family view on the Child Account. Your child should now be able to see the shared titles that you selected on their own PC, within their own account, under the limitations you set within Family View.

That's great, that's worked for me. Thanks very much for answering.

It leaves me with another slightly weird problem! I'm basically sharing 2 games he's got for Christmas - Jurassic Park Evolution 2 and RPG Maker MV. So JPE2 shows up fine - RPG Maker doesn't. In my library, I need to switch from 'games' in the library to 'games and software' but on my son's account, there is no software option - just games and tools and no RPG Maker?

Not all games can be shared.

"RPG Maker MV" is excluded from Steam Family Share, as is nearly all "software".

As other have said, some games, and most software is not able to be shared.

Most obvious games excluded from family share are those from EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, etc. Basically anything that requires a 3rd party (DRM) login.
