Paypal Payment Not Working

When I try to use paypal on steam from the app. It takes me to safari on the paypal website in order to log in so I can pay. However, the page it opens up is just a blank screen. The url is paypal, yet its just the paypal logo and a white screen below it.

I opened a ticket with Steam support for this issue and provided a screen recording.

1. Happens with Safari as well.
2. Chrome on iOS is also built on WebKit/Safari - Apple requirement. The only things that carry over would be bookmarks and history. Plug-ins do not work.

Ok I found a work around. In safari go to google and search for steam, hold on the link and click open in background. The page should then open without opening the app and you can then go through and complete a PayPal purchase.

How is this possible. I’m not able to pay through PayPal or ideal. Do you steam people want to make things as hard as possible to spend money at your store? If this is a way to protect me from spending my entire salary, thanks… but can’t we agree to a maximum then?

This isn’t related to phones because my Steam desktop app has a similar problem. Just like you for some reason now I’m getting a yellow PayPal logo up top and then a fully white screen on the mobile phone but I tried to do it in the app as well on the PC and it just opens a little pop-up look at normally would and it has a waitin logo in the middle but it never gets off the wedding logo. If you click away it’ll ask you if you want to continue your transaction you say yes or no it will close and take you back to steam? what the hell is going on? I’ll see y’all posted this a few months ago. Is that still happening to you?

My steam desktop has the same issue and has for months, and I've tried everything possible to resolve the issue including not having my payment info saved, clearing the browser cache/cookies, and it still doesn't work.

In the past I've made hundreds of purchases through the steam browser with no issues so this is a recent update and it's infuriating. Having to copy the link into a browser to make purchases works, but is not an acceptable solution so this should be a priority for Valve. I've definitely been spending less since this happened so it's costing Valve and developers a lot of money since I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I've been having this issue for a few days. Can't even get around it by copying the url into my browser to get around in-game overlay issues because, even though Paypal works fine after that step, Steam gives me an unexpected error, and tells me to wait before trying again. Over and over. My bank has the holds from the attempted transactions, but Steam apparently can't figure out what to do with them.

Having the same issue today. I have had this paypal account for years with no problem. I have purchased games on Steam for 4 years using paypal. When i put in my password a white screen appears and nothing happens. I tried twice -same thing and then a message appears saying "something is wrong with your account" so I went to another computer and logged into my paypal account and it was ok. Nothing is wrong with my paypal account. Maybe the recent Steam update caused issues.

Pretty sure it's because Paypal no longer supports the outdated embedded google chrome Steam uses.

I wouldn't expect any fix for this on Steam's end until after January 2024, when Valve drops support for Windows 7/8/8.1 and can update to a later version.

Until then if you want to use Paypal you will have to use a normal browser.

This issue first appeared in new Steam App. I raised it then along with other users and it still hasn't been fixed. Doesn't look like it'll get fixed any time soon.

Bump
