Installing Skyrim from the DVD is rather pointless as that data is massively outdated and would be replaced by Steam anyway when it downloads the updated files. So it just skips them instead.
I fell asleep around 8pm and have now slept until just after midnight, so I have already gotten an entire nights sleep, so I will stay up and watch over the download through the night and maybe I can get it to work this time. I have never downloaded any of the Steam updates other than initial install of Steam of Steam or when it does it trying ti install a game, I just can't afford the bandwidth, I have 10 gigs a month of total bandwidth. Once I get Steam installed I make sure and disable it in the startup and make sure it gets turned off before I plug in the internet, this keeps it from ever updating and using up all the bandwidth. I keep all other auto update turned off as well, but winbdows update especially seems to be able to run even when it is turned off.
With any luck I can get Skyrim tonight, and then if I am really lucky, I can get the Oblivion tomorrow. I already loaded on Moirrowind, I tried the Morrowind doenload from Steam the other day, it was cool because I was able to use Blood Moon, which I normally cannot get to run, but it made all my water wired and bright white and I noticed I cannot use the TES editor on the files, so no point in playing the Steam version of that, I much prefer my own modded version...
