How to re-enable the steam auto download region server select?

I changed it to LAN - Europe for Dark Souls but I'd like to switch it back to whatever the best download region is. How can I re-enable the auto select for the download region?

In all honesty no clue how to get steam to automatically reselect the best region. But maybe if you exit and restart steam it might work, or if you want you could always reinstall it and that would do the trick. (But you probably don't want to do that.) So I will tell you how to do it manually click Steam in the top right corner > Click Downlaods > Then you will see a header called download region with a drop down box clcik it > Then select the nearest region to your location.

This seems to work for me although I haven't tested it extensively.

Be sure to close steam first. Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config" (your steam directory may be different) and make a copy of "config.vdf" before opening it in a text editor like notepad++. You want to look for and delete the line that starts with "CurrentCellID". Save the file and reopen steam.

Steam should have now selected a different download server unless the closest one was already selected. I had "Canada - Montreal" selected and it changed to "Canada - Ottawa" after doing this.

Edit:
I'd also suggest deleting the lines that start with "TimeCellIDSet", "PingTimeForCurrentCellID", "CM" and "CS" just to keep things consistent when the lines are re-added to the file by Steam.

how do i change it
it says it can be override but it doesn't let me select it

Clear your download cache. It'll close steam and you'l have to login again, but it will reset your region and steam will select it for you.
