Second Steam controller not working in game
I have two steam controllers connected to the steam link. Both connect, both work in big picture mode. Launch a game, ANY game, and only 1 controller responds in game. I can still hit the steam button with the second controller and interact with the steam interface, but cannot use the controller in the actual game. I had both controllers working fine previously. No firmware updates from last working time. Only thing I can remember doing was changing the batteries on one controller. I tried rebooting everything, unplugging and replugging back all connections, connecting the controllers to the actual computer with no result.

I have the same problem here for some time now. First thought it was my error but after some debugging it seams like an error of steam.

It works with some games for me - Portal 2 for example - but no others.

Locally attached to a cable both work. Sometimes even wirelessly - but not if I'm using the Steamlink.

Are you running the Steam beta?

If not give that a try. It sometimes resolves quirky controller issues.

I am having same issue. I am unable to use a second controller in any of the lego games. Once the second controller is turned on it takes over and the other controller for player 1 completely stops working. This is happening on harry potter 1-4. This is extremely irritating and can't seem to fix it. Using two wireless dongles in steam link. When we first got steam link this was never an issue. Starting to get ticked off with valve. If this is the type of stability we are going to see. I send it all back and get a refund. Not only does this issue happen on this lego harry potter but its on ALL games. Tested it out and this is definitely something to do with drivers or just valve and microsoft are not communicating properley. Or simple the steam link got a ♥♥♥♥ patch last patch.

Also wanted to add that i tried uninstalling the HID devices and this did not fix issue. NO workaround has worked. So apparently steam link can only have 1 player at any time

I have the exact same problem. When I got the Steam Link and the two controllers about a month ago it worked fine to begin with. I played Trine and Divinity: Original Sin local co-op, no issues. After formatting my PC though, I got this problem. I've done everything, factory reset, re-registered both controllers, switched to beta build...

I got them both working when I plugged them directly into the PC without using the Steam link. Plugging them in with USB in the Steam link does not work either. Incredibly frustrating.

We're having the same issue. 2 Controllers worked fine when we originally got the controllers but not anymore *sad*

I got it to work again. Got a reply from Steam support, and told me it was a known issue and to activate the Steam client beta. I had already activated the steam link beta, but apparently that's something else.

From big picture, go Settings -> System -> Check 'Participate in beta". Restart Steam and voilá.

Any update on this?
Still got the exact same issue popping up 6 years after the last comment.
Two controllers connected through steam link from MAC, they work perfectly in steam big picture, one of them doesn't do anything in game.
