Is there a way to play Steam games while they are updating?
Hello,

A new update was released for Payday 2 today that is 2 gigabytes in size. However, my internet connection can be pretty bad, so that will take me 12 hours. Is there any way I could play offline while the game is updating?

Thanks in advance.

Not really you need to wait til they are updated. This isn't like Origin. Origin can download updates while playing the game. Not every
game can do that.

Aww, that sucks.
Thanks for the quick response!

I think it depends on game.
I have Fallout 4 and Rocket League updates now. I noticed that, I can play Fallout 4 while updating, but cannot play Rocket League.
Maybe it is something developer sets, or Steam automatically allows it for single-player only games.

You must be mistaken, it's not possible to play a game where an update is downloaded.
The last Fallout 4 patch was about two months ago.

Beta patches have been more frequent than that.

Maybe they were running FO4 using F4SE and that allowed it to run ... ?

I found why I can play Fallout 4 while there is a download. The download was "Contraptions Workshop DLC", it is released today. First time DLC downloads don't prevent to play.

Payday 2 writes the whole game as a copy each time it updates.
If that makes any sense it would do so, to be able to be played meanwhile. Which it doesnt.
