Purchase restrictions of hardware.
Anyone else reach the max limit of what valve will allow for hardware purchases? I used my wallet to purchase 3 steam controllers and 2 steam links, and now I cannot buy any more. Support seems to be refusing to answer my simple questions, and suggested that IF I want/need more steam controllers that I buy them at an authorized retailer:

Refusing to answer:

Why is there a device limit?
What are the device limits? (Specific item limit per account)
When will it be lifted.
How can I spent my steam wallet funds at a participating retailer?

Anyone out there know any answers to these questions?

Well IF there is a limit, this is the first I've heard of it.

If that is what Support saying, then what u gonna do?

Sorry if u have alot racked in Wallet Funds, I guess you'll have to spend those on other stuff in Steam.

If in North America, then ask your local GameStop, or you can purchase from places like them, or Ebay for things like Steam Link / Controller.

Why do you need more than three controllers?

Could be due to gifting reasons; whatever, I personally am not questioning the reasons.
I don't see why Valve/Steam would be limting you.

There is a device limit to prevent scalpers from buying the devices and reselling them once they are sold out.

Typical scenario = scalper buys 500 steam controllers, Valve runs out, then they sell them on Ebay for double the price.

Why would it matter. I can purchase gifts of games to give to friends and family, but it seems odd that I cannot purchase hardware.

Its simple like this. To date I have purchased 6 copies of Shadows Of Chernobyl. I have purchased 4 copies of Dark souls. There are a number of other titles that I gifted away without even owning, only because It was a fun joke, or that I saw it on a wishlist. Not once has there been a restriction. Being digital has no impact either, because there is a key associated with each game in some way. There are "limited" amounts of game keys. I have personally seen games run out during sales. So saying that games are digital and steam controllers are physical is not a valid arguement.

Recently I played around with CS:Go trading....In short, I spent $10 on case keys, and in my 3rd case I unlocked a knife worth more than the max steam wallet value. I broke it down into smaller items, and sold them via steam's market.

So to answer your question:

I personally do not need more than 2 steam controllers. At first I thought it was a terrible invention, and as I learned to use it I realized that it is a very capable controller that does much much more than any of the direct competition on the PC.

Why would you not want to share something like this with friends and family much like great titles like Dark Souls & STALKER?

Per support THERE is a limit. I do have a large balance in my wallet remaining. What am I going to do? I will wait. Aledgedly this restriction will be lifted, but they refuse to tell me when exactly. I am also going to email some of the great people at valvesoftware and see what their opinion is. It feels odd to me that a limit would be placed against a purchase when they already have the money in their hands. What can I do is a better question. I can't do anything. They have the money, and they have the authority to regulate how I spend it. Sounds fair in some sort of socialist utopia.

Steam interface in itself requires an individual purchase for single items. There is a MAXIMUM "cart" quantity of 1x of each piece of hardware. You cannot increase the quanity beyond that. After that you have to imput your personal information at each purchase. I would think that a credit card company would stop you before steam would after a few dozen purchases from the same outlet.

I understand that I am a minority in this situation. Most people don't have a $400 steam wallet. My wishlist has about 40 titles. TBH Im waiting for Fallout4 to go on sale. There is no better way to burn off my wallet balance than to gift away a bunch of the best PC controllers I have found.

Sorry for bumping an old thread. I was curious if you were able to resolve this issue? I'm currently having the same problem.

The issue is likely they are worried about a large number of returns (for non-delivery for example). I would imagine once you have the items and Valve is aware of that the limitation would phase off.

It was resolved with time. I think that the reason is so that IF a physical product is had using stolen credentials than it is a real loss.....its not like digital software.

Everyone I gave my controller or link to has loved it also. I gave my brother a steam link the other month, and it is his primary method of gaming. After the fact, I realize that an honest person buying a bulk of hardware for no apparent reason in April is probally statistically odd. They were on sale also, so that may have had impact on it.
