Steam Library - ''We've come up empty!...'' after some time or wake up from sleep in favorites or categories view..
Hey everybody,

so i have steam running in the backround most of the time and i prefer to add the games/tools and whatnot to the library favorites and have only those displayed. After some time, maybe two hours or after i wake my pc from sleep mode, the library in favorites view or any category view is empty and the ''We've come up empty! Try clearing your searchfiled...'' message is being displayed. I then have to select the favorites tab in the library tab afresh. The same behivour happens with all categories like multiplayer, strategy etc. that i have added.

But, it works as intended when select the 'Games, Installed, Recent or Uncategorized' tabs.

1.) Do you guys experience the same behaviour? That it works consistantly only for these four tabs 'Games, Installed, Recent or Uncategorized', but not for all the others?

2.) Anyway to fix this? Its really annoying and i fail to see why it should act in this manner.

How do you wake up your computer? Do you press a key on the keyboard? It's possible the search field has focus, and you are typing a partial search.

usually by moving my mouse. Besides, this happes even if no steam windows is opened and as mentioned after some time. I don't understand why some filters work without issue and especially the most practical one (favorites) does not.

I do! I'll set my library to grid view in the favorites category and after switching to another task it'll come up with a "We've come up empty! Try clearing your search field or selecting another category from the dropdown above". I'll then hit favorites and it'll bring up my games no problem. It's not a big deal, but definitely something I'd rather not have happen.

i have solved in the following way. I actually add all the games i don't regularly play at the moment to the favorites tab and have the uncategorized tab as my standard tab displayed. The uncategorized tab does not suffer from the ...we've come up empty....issue and you still can add and delete games with one click from it. Its just simply using the favorites designation in reverse. Let me know whether it helps you as well.

I have the same issue. I created a group called "Backlog" and have that as my default view. After some time, I get the 'We've come up empty! Try clearing your searchfiled...'' message.

Have seen this for a while now (year+) on many of the folders I've made. Minor but annoying as I like to keep Steam open all the time.

yeah...either nobody cares about keeping a bit of order in their library except the users represented in this thread, or valve can't be bothered to do anything that is not directly related to the store and the way sales are being conducted. Anyway, apparently valve is working on an overhaul of the steam client (not just the storefront) as i have heard more than once over the last couple of months. Hopefully this issue is on their list as well....

Not to belittle your request, but I imagine that they're working on issues that adversely affect a larger number. (Personally, I've never witnessed that behavior.)

I've noticed that if you lose your internet connection for a short time this happens right away.

I get this problem as well. The library always comes up empty after being asleep.

I contacted Steam support and this is the message I got:

Thanks for reporting this.

Unfortunately, we do not have a fix for you at this time.

I will pass this along to the developers and we will continue to monitor for any increases in issues related to this. The developers use a number of community sources to help investigate the frequency and severity of issues like this. These issues are continually being addressed through Steam Updates. Support does not provide any information on upcoming or planned fixes.

Again, I am sorry that we do not have a fix for you at this time.

I suggest all of you who have this problem to report it as well maybe someday they will fix this.

And two years later, STILL no fix for this?

Thank goodness I found this thread. Was fed up with having to restart my PC every time. Might switch to a non-Steam games launcher as I like the grid view (I have well over 1000 games in my library but like grid view of just those I'm playing currently).
