Windows 10 update makes games slow
So, this whole windows 10 for free thing is supposed to end on the 29th, so I figured I'd upgrade to it before the offer expired. I went straight to Team Fortress 2 and No More Room in Hell to see how it ran, and it's running like molasses. They ran much smoother on Windows 8.1

I'm currently updating everything, such as the graphics card. Ive still got tons of space left on my computer. About 350/400 Gigs of free space and RAM is plentiful too. Could the graphics card honestly be the issue? The games are still running, they just run extremely slowly. What does this issue sound like? Should I go back to Windows 8.1?

I've gone from Windows 7 to 10 and then 8.1, personally, and have zero regrets. Win10 affected gaming performance on my system as well.

When you upgrade, you need to update all your drivers. You need to reinstall your GPU driver as well, preferably using DDU to uninstall the old driver first.

There is nothing wrong with Windows 10, you are just running inefficiently with outdated drivers.

Not only that, but there are issues that can arise with the upgrade process in itself. This is one of many reasons why I suggest a clean installation.

No idea how to reinstall GPU or even uninstall the previous GPU driver, or even what DDU is, but it looks like i'll have to look it up.

Should I uninstall the GPU and reinstall manually right now? Will it be too late if I leave it up to Windows update to upgrade it?

Just go to the website of your GPU brand (NIVIDEA/AMD) and download the newest drivers for your card. Then install them, reboot and then all games will run fine.
Had to do the same thing when i switched to Windows 10 last year.
Apart from that, no problems with Windows 10.

I'll guide you.

First, we need to know what motherboard and GPU you have. Once we have that information, we can move forward.

If you don't know this information, you can simply post a CPU-Z validation by using CPU-Z from CPUID.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Once loaded up, click on 'validate' then 'submit'. Post the website URL (Web address).

FIXED!! Turns out, it installed "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" when updating windows, which is a backup graphics driver, because it couldn't find the right graphics driver in the time limit.

Windows Update installed the right one just now, though

It's always best to install hardware drivers manually, rather than let Windows update handle it.
