GameSave Manager question & Steam saves overall
So GameSave Manager, I found out about it from a How To Geek article. It mentions do check steam library list view to see which games have the cloud symbol.

Most of mine do. Does this mean they're backed up with Steam and they'll be tied to my account without having to back them up?

Also, why do some games have the cloud icon but also have save folders elsewhere (like DOOM - located in C:\Users\Username)? Should I just check all games on GameSave Manager and back them up even if they had the cloud symbol?

My computer started making a noise and I'm worried my HD is dying... I have no backup of saves or even no where to begin.

Just back them all up to be safe. The cloud symbol simply means that the game uses some form of the cloud.

It could be saves, configs, full mod support. Whatever the devs choose for that game.

The cloud isn't where saves go, it's a backup that is there to allow you to download the game somewhere else and pick up where you left off, you still need saves ON your PC.

How does GameSave Manager work? Do you create an account with it or does it just work off the comp it's on? If I backed up all my saves to GSM and my comp just all of a sudden got fried how does that help me on a new comp?

If I downloaded GSM again I'd theoretically have to have somewhere to log in to and restore the saves...

Ideally you use it to back up your saves to something that isn't on your PC. A thumb drive or a dvd or something like that. External drives, a second hard drive. You could even use dropbox or onedrive or gmail.

D'oh. I have a 500 GB external HD. I'm a moron.

I don't need to back up anything else right? Isn't common just the game installs? I don't have space to backup installs. What about userdata?

Moving userdata is a good idea, that can house some saves and any screenshots you might have, as well as other misc files a game might put there.
