How to Friend Someone in game

How do I friend someone on TF2? I know one way is to go onto Steam, go to Add a Friend, find their profile and click Add Friend, but isn't there a faster way to do so? I'm asking on the general Steam discussion board because although my example is about TF2, the friending system usually applies to all Steam games, so, like I asked before: Any faster and quicker way to friend someone (like both of us playing on the same server, and I wanted to friend them while still on TF2)?

Shift+Tab, there should be a section called "friends" bottom left (I think) and give you options: "view friends" and "recently played", click on the recently played tab and it'll show a list of people you've played with.

I've tried that, but it seems that it doesn't show who you played with until the next day, which sucks. I could try it again just to make sure...

It functions for me on the same date though. Isn't there a [Players] -tab too in the friendslist while on the same server in Team Fortress 2?
