How can i turn off running steam when i click guide button?

So long as Steam is running, pressing the button will bring it up as an active Window. If it's already the active Window, then BPM will be started.

This is something that you can not turn off. The only way to make that stop functioning is to fully exit Steam.

I dont think you can. I never got that to work. I always disconnect the battery pack to turn off the controller.

I don't understand why this feature is not built into the driver.

Got what to work? Thats not how u turn off the controller. The guide button does not work on PC like it does on an Xbox.

If you want to turn off Wireless 360 Controller on PC, you either let it sit idle and it will shut itself off; or you disconnect the battery, then reconnect it. Simple really.

You man you want to close Steam when pressing he Guide button? You can only do that if you are running Steam in Big Picture mode

If you are using Windows 10 you need to press Windows Key + G and change the settings to disable the Game Bar otherwise it will override Steam Big Picture mode.

You don't need the battery check MS app; the controller will signify with the LED if the battery is low.

NOW: when i press guide button, steam is running (showing up from minimalize).
I WANT TO: when i press guide button nothing is happen.

I have application which when i press guide button for 2-4 seconds (when controller is on) this app showing me battery status and 2 options, B button to close this window (window of this app) and A button to turn off controller and close this window in the same time.

And this ♥♥♥♥♥ magic is here... when i pressed guide button steam is showing up and my app is under steam, and this app no react on my pressing A and B button on gamepad. I have to close steam and then press A to turn off controller or B to close window (usefull when i want only to check battery status).

Well I find it very invasive when Steam takes these kind of liberties without even allowing you to opt out. Yes, I do use the "guide" button to see the remaining battery because it tells you four different levels: Full, medium, low, emplty!
The controller itself just tells you if the battery is low (or not)
Finally, the fact that the second press opens Big Picture is super annoying. What if you pressed it by mistake? Why can you not disable this behavior!! Urrrghhh

So because a 3rd party controller is "wrong" in design, that's Steam's fault somehow.
Steam is going to work around and also with big name products, not some generic crap from China that is trying to rip off Microsoft, yet doesn't even work properly in an OS when people do buy it. When the only reason people bought the knock-off cause it looked exactly the same and was cheaper; the customer sometimes just has no clue what they are buying, then gets mad about it.

A Microsoft Xbox Controller ringed LED will let you know when the battery level is reaching too low; that's all you need to know. High/Med doesn't mean anything anyways without a % #

So what's the point. You know when your batteries are fresh, and the controller tells you when they are about to die, before they actually do. That works just like it's supposed to. If you need a another pointless app or overlay to define that for you, then you need to just go back to Consoles.

Even the big name controllers do not work 100% exact to how they do on Consoles for various reasons. That's not Steams fault either.

And once your within a game, you can't make BigPictureMode come up from the Guide Button, so what's the problem. And when not using it, it should be Off or Unplugged. I mean if you wanna talk about accidental button presses and such... Thats like getting mad for dying in a game cause YOU pressed the wrong button.

One thing should be noted: Steam as the first PC program to use the guide button. Back then, before Microsoft accepted Windows as a gaming platform, Steam was the one and o ly program doing anything with the button. As such, it pretty much has the right to use it.

you argue about the validity of an issue someone else has, without knowing the full story. the question was: "can i disable the BPM or make steam completely ignore the guide button?"
your answer: "you are doing it wrong!"
that is not very helpful.

the issue i have is similar to OP's problem.
i wanna turn off my controller, which works by holding the guide button for ~10 seconds. as soon as the controller turn off, steam pops up, or worse, opens up the Big Picture Mode with its loud jingle playing followed by me reeling with the mouse and clicking through menus to turn it off again without shutting down steam.
i do want to turn off the controller to save battery, and because the guide button sometimes annoys me, when its glowing.

i think i know the program OP is using, and it's very useful. for one, knowing if the batteries are full or half full actually does make a difference. i started taping crap over the guide button of my 360 controller, because there is no way to tell the controller at what percentage to start flashing. for me, when the controller started flashing, there were still a couple of hours left in the batteries . . . with constantly distractingly flashing guide button lights.

right now on my xbox one controller, i have a battery pack inside the controller. how am i supposed to know how much juice is left, since it's been months since i put it in . . . and frankly, i don't really expect it to take it out anytime soon.

leading into your next point: take out the batteries to turn the controller off.
do YOU trip the breaker to the room your PC is in to shut it down?
there is functionality built into the device so you don't have to, and steam makes this functionality virtually unusable!
(besides: as easy as it is to disconnect the battery pack from the 360 controller, the batteries are actually INSIDE the xbox one controller. it's a real pain to get the batteries out of that controller.)

anyway. i'd really like to know if anyone does know a workaround or a real solution to this problem.
and a problem it absolutely is!
