Can I pause a download, turn off the computer without losing the download progress?
Hello. I want to purchase, download and install Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai but I don´t have enough time right now because the download is too big, my internet connection downloads at a maximum of 600 kb/s and I would like to continue with the download the following week so I will need to turn off the computer at least twice. Will I lose the download progress and start again?

Thanks

I'm sure you should be able to pause it either way.

i don't think that it would reset all of the download progress.
when its at something% and you turn off the computer the files you downloaded are still there.

100% does not work. I downloaded a 50 GB game, I had to go so I paused the download and pressed the steam close button. Turned PC on in morning and had to install it all over again... really pissed.

No it does work, what most likely happend is that the game had an update/patch in the time you had the download paused. If that happens and the download starts again Steam checks the download files version and if it finds newer files ( because of the patch) he will delete the old ones and start from the beginning.
Can be quite annoying.

You won't lose progress.
Not even a single bit.
I did it myself on a desktop with a game of 20 of 29Gb,
and it still runs fine when starting back up my pc.

How i did it:
  • go to download
  • pause the dowload
  • close steam with the X
  • wait 5 min.
  • shut down the pc with the provided shut down button in the start menu
  • let the pc shut down
  • leave it there
DO NOT PULL THE PLUG / POWER OF YOUR PC

And Indeed, if you have a update from windown or the game it may restart over.

I always have a lot of games installed. Nearly all the time I get updates. I don't care. I shutdown my pc each night. I don't look at the updates, it just works.

So, yes, just shutdown your pc, ignore tips which make you do anything.

I works for me. It resumes the download when I turn on the PC.

yeah as long as its not an update i thought i would have to start all over my payday 2 download which is 60gb so as long as its not a update your ok

The same thing happened to me with payday 2. Instead of just pausing the download, i pressed the x on the right side of the download after i paused it, then turned my pc off, then it just continued the download the day after.

im not sure, but change location could lead to not as same as reboot , try test taht possibility out with new fresh download . do exit steam correctly dont shutdown steam on force. ( that mean pause download and exit steam and reboot pc ( you can even test this with restart steam to see if windows clear something )

and wtachout for auto clear app that flush temp files , plenty of them
