Non-steam game updates? (Call of Duty 2)
I have an old retail copy of CoD2 (non-steam), I'm wondering if I install it and add it to my steam library, will I recieve the latest steam update for the game?

I think there might be a chance seeing as cod2 is now on steam, does anyone know?

If you have a valid key for the game, and Steam accepts the key (not all retail keys can be redeemed), then you can install updates from Steam. If you add the game as a non-Steam game, you will not be able to update the game through Steam, or access Steamworks features.

CoD2 can not be activated on Steam.
What do you mean with "now on steam"?

Even the super-old listing of "Retail games you can activate on Steam account" only went back as far as CoD 4 MW / CoD 5 WaW to give you an idea for CoD.

Older CoD, no...

And newer Windows OS, good luck getting old retail games to even run the Installer/Setup without being blocked, let alone run them.

It will probably be reason enough for many to keep an older machine going, using WinXP or maybe Win7, so they can reinstall/run old games like that they do not wish to re-purchase.

Say it installs & runs; all adding to Steam will do for you is add a CoD2.exe shortcut into your local Steam Client Library listing; nothing more. It's a mere desktop shortcut within steam library, that's it.
