Plug in the Xbox controller.
Open Device Manager
Right Click "Xbox One Controller"
Select Update Driver Software
Browse on my PC
Let me pick from a list
Pick the "Microsoft Xbox One Controller" driver
The "Xbox One Controller" driver doesn't work but the "Microsoft Xbox One Controller" driver should work.
if you have/ use any powered usb hubs, use the power cable that came with it, as my pc didnt have enough power, to keep a webcam & a blue nessie mic, running at same time, my usb 3.0 hub needed to be powered, lucky i had some somthing that worked to power it. now both devices work, with it powered, so happy.
EDIT: i fixed my problem, i had the main steam software installed on my ssd(system drive) and i still had an older version of steam still installed on my 4tb drive, which i switched the shortcut to older steam. after a reboot, it got all confused, probably why my controller stopped working, and probably why certain games ( TWD:Final Season) were, crashing to desktop.
uninstalled steam on ssd, using a handy uninstaller software, then rebooted pc, re-configured steam to use my controller again, tryed running a game, and controller works again, and games (TWD:Final Season), aren ot crashing any more. happy days.
I have also tried multiple controllers, and none of them work with steam games
open steam, click on settings, controller, then uncheck xbox configuration settings.
In Steam, click on the Big Picture Mode button at the upper right corner
This will open Steam in Big Picture Mode in full screen
Click on the Library button
Select the game you want to play
Click on the Manage Game button in the left-hand column
Click on the Controller Options button
Click the Steam Input Per-Game drop-down box
Select Forced Off
Launch game to confirm that your controller is recognized
plug in your xbox controller
click start, device manager, scroll down till you see xbox controller, right click it,select update driver software, update to latest drivers, scan for latest drivers and download them.
right click xbox controller again, select update driver software again, select browse my computer for drivers, let me pick from a list of available drivers, uncheck box show compatible hardware, select MICROSOFT XBOX ONE CONTROLLER,(if its not there search google and download it, the 64 bit one)
hit next, finish and then restart your computer when it prompts you too. it should work now.
Go to your Taskbar & Right Click your mouse, Then Click on Task Manager
Look up a Service Called: Xbox Live Auth Service, Relaunch that & it should work
Hope this helps :)
For me this was the most effective solution that worked out perfectly, i had no issues since then, others didn't work quite well, so hope this could come in handy
