How do I NOT use steam wallet?
EDIT (Solution): After choosing "myself" or "gift" the program will skip a screen and go to the payment method selection. There is a back button to go the the page in between, where you can edit the use of your steam wallet.

I'm trying to buy a game right now. It's always worked "normally" before. As in, I select a payment method other than steam wallet from the drop-down list, and I can pay with that method (I use IDEAL, fyi).

Suddenly, since today (or earlier, last time I bought was in februari), that option is not possible anymore. The drop-down menu is still there, but it doens't take it as the main payment method anymore. It just empties my steam wallet, no matter what I choose, and then takes my chosen payment method as the extra funds required (there's not enough in my wallet).

There is a "change" button behind the steam wallet money in the "do you agree" screen, and when I click that, it says something about my payment provider has not finished the previous payment yet (WELL, DUH, I'M STILL BUSY WITH IT). I just want to pay the full amount with IDEAL, and not a partial amount to support the defecit from my steam wallet. I don't want my steam wallet to be drained empty.

After three attemps where I tried some stuff (never finsihing it) steam claims I have attempted multiple purchases in the last few minutes, so I need to wait for a bit before I can try again.

What is this nonsense? The first problem is that I can't NOT use my wallet. The second problem is that there is a huge flaw somewhere behind the scenes here since it shouldn't even see it as purchases until I agree about the payment method.

Just don't select the Wallet as your primary payment method. I do that all the time.

That's what I did, and it took my wallet as primary anyway. Multiple times. Did you even read the post? I do that all the time too, but it seems it's been changed (or bugged for me, perphaps?).

Wallet funds are now added automatically during checkout . Not liking it either.

The only way is to remove the wallet payment before completing the purchase.

OH wow, that's pretty annoying. Well, thanks for the anwer, anyway.

I'm not sure what you mean by "removing the wallet payment" as a solution? You mean not having money in your steam wallet?

"removing the wallet payment" = "not paying with the money from your wallet".

So if I have $10 in my wallet and a game costs $20, there WERE two options:

1) Pay 10 from wallet and 10 through another option.
2) Or pay 20 through the other option (and keep the 10 in your wallet).

Option 2 seems to have been removed for some dumb reason (or it has been made really obscure, since I can't change it at ANY stage of the purchase). Which is really annoying. I wanted to keep my money from trading and stuff seperate from my money that I use to buy games.

I believe if you have some steam wallet funds, and a credit card linked to your account, when you go to purchase the game, change the payment method from the credit card to paypal. it will make it so paypal is the ONLY thing that will get charged. It worked for me earlier today

Currently I get to this page immediately after choosing "Purchase for myself": https://i.imgur.com/MeGToAl.jpg

It only asks me where I want Steam to take the remaining money from - I can't choose to not use steam wallet at all. At least unless there's some option elsewhere that can change it. I use the funds in my steam wallet for steam trading, so it's annoying to be forced to use it for buying games.

Edit: In the past I could choose which payment method to use for the entire transaction, and steam wallet (+ Paypal?) was just the default, and the default could not be changed.

There is a back button, use it.

ah, you're right, that works! I assumed it would take me back to the "purchase for myself"- screen. So they've essentially just made it default in an even more annoying way.

Thanks, Cathulhu!

Wait, what? So they SKIP a screen, basically, and you have to use "back" to find it? Well, that explains why I couldn't find it. Who the heck came up with that nonsense?

Cathulhu, why would you say it like it's logical to do that? The "back" button is supposed to take you to the previous screen, not to an entirely new screen. I used the arrow of the steam page (top left) to go back, so I'd never find it. Why would that back button and the back button on the store page be different? Ridiculous.

But at least I finally have the solution now. So thank you.

Thanks this is exactly what i was looking for. What a silly method you to not use wallet funds... back button to a page you weren't in before. If this was a puzzle in a game it would be quite clever.

Oh.. my.. god.. I just ran into the exact same problem. And using the 'back' button was indeed the solution. But why the %#*$ do they skip the damn page?! And who is in right mind would think to press the back button?

If any Steam dev is reading this. Please fix this. This is not the way in dealing with payments! You just don't decide for people how they are going pay!
