Dark Souls 3 Backup Not Working
Hello. So I recently upgraded to Windows 10. I made sure to backup the file using Steam's "Backup and Restore games...".
This is the backup that it made on my USB: http://i64.tinypic.com/2608kcz.jpg

I just can't get the backup to work. I've tried using Steam's backup and restore games to use the backup to recover it, but when I go to play the game, the only option is "new game". I've also tried directly going to the C:\Users\Your-username\AppData\Roaming\DarkSoulsIII\ and replacing it with a copy of my backup file, but I get the same message when I try to play the game.

Are my 70+ hours in Dark Souls 3 lost? Am I doing it wrong? Anyone have any helpful advice?

Backup and Restore only backs up the games files, it does not backup save games. As Dark Souls 3 does not appear to use the Steam cloud, your best bet would be looking in the Windows.Old folder to see if you can find the game's save file there.

Well that sucks, because I did a fresh install of windows 7 before upgrading. rip to my game. Seems like a pretty useless and misleading feature that steam has. Caused me a lot of pain. Well I've learned the hard way. I'll manually copy game save data from now on and will not trust steam with anything important. :,(

You could have avoided the pain by reading the FAQ in the support section:

Pretty plainly stated...

Cool story. That information should be displayed when someone is using the Steam backup feature.
