Account hacked, someone purchased $400 worth of gta sharkcards and put it on their account.
I was on my computer watching youtube, when my dad comes into my room and tells me that he's been charged for $400 worth of something on steam. I changed my password, and he blocked anything that steam tries charging from his credit card. I don't know what to do. I tried refunding the purchases but it says I can't because they were in game purchases (Rockstar shark cards) and they've been used. I don't know what to do. If you are in Steam support can you please try to help me.

Steam support is a separate site, you have to create an account with them, and post a support ticket.
https://support.steampowered.com/
More importantly, clean the damn malware off your computer, they needed direct access to it to get CC details.
Oh, And info on what is going to happen to your account when your dad ends up reversing the charges through his CC or Bank.

Account suspensions are fun!

Or since it was handled in GTA5's in game store, you might actually have to deal Rockstar, since I assume those transactions go through their servers.

Dunno. But I would ask over in the GTA5 for on Rockstar's own forums.
I hope Valve cares about their customer like this person, while he got ofcourse himself to blame for not having good or any security on his PC, it's still a customer with almost 40 games here on Steam.

Valve better tracks down where the sharkcards were send to and ban that account, not this legit customer! And give this user all the guidance needed to prevent this from ever happening again.

I can only imagine how horrible it must feel when something like this happens to you.

Best of luck!
Thanks! :D

That's what I suspect.

Yeah. I got to thinking about that. I have never made an IN-game purchase for a game I play through Steam, I just let the Steam store handle it. I almost slapped myself in the forehead when I realized that.
i dont link my debit or credit cards to my steam acc. i just put how much i need into my steam wallet so that i dont get hackers using all of my money

I only do purchases that accept my paypal. Or Steam cards. It is a very smart choice. I used to keep a low limit card for online purchases but that go to be a money sink with fees.
I always use steam prepaid gift card. That's the safest way.

never save your banking info when you buy stuff
Be smart and never make online purchases from a potentially compromised machine, not matter how safe you are.

That little checkbox where it says "save credit card details for later purchases" or whatever? Shouldn't be checked.
