CSGO and Dota 2 (Steam games particularly - stuttering fix)
Hi, I’m writing this guide on how to fix stutter issues or sudden/random drop in FPS particularly in CSGO and Dota 2. This is my first time actually writing a guide but I will keep it as clear and brief as possible.
CSGO: 300FPS drops to >> 100FPS
Dota2: 120FPS drops to >> 70FPS
(Settings doesn’t matter because I’ve tried every possible settings including turning on/off vsync and other ♥♥♥♥♥)
There are a lot of tweaks and ♥♥♥♥ on the internet that helps many people fix their problems with these 2 particular games but none of it works for me.
Please note that I can run the latest AAA titles smoothly without any problems at max settings
It doesn’t matter how high end or low end your rig is and these fix doesn’t work for me even after a whole week of researching and all those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Before I start, here are my PC specifications.
CPU: i5-6600k
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming
MOBO: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
Monitor: Acer XB240H 1080p 144hz (No G-Sync)
Storage: 1 256GB SSD + 2 1TB HDD
Windows 10 is installed on the SSD as well as Steam, however SteamLibrary is installed on one of the 1TB HDD.
I hope this configuration is specific enough.
Anyways, here’s the fix that doesn’t work for me but it’s worth a try for you guys out there that doesn’t want to do what I have done which is to do a clean install all over again.
Things that I have tried:
1. Reinstalled Windows 10 Pro before and the stuttering ♥♥♥♥ still happens.
2. Checking windows for corrupted files with “System File Checker” and “Deployment Image Servicing and Management” methods (Google this, easy stuff).
3. Reinstalling CSGO and Dota2
4. Check the file integrity through steam for CSGO and Dota2
5. Install/Reinstall Realtek drivers from official website
6. Install/Reinstall Realtek drivers from my MOBO’s website
7. Overclock CPU/GPU properly with stable outcome (Stress test with aida64, benchmark with unigine heaven etc.)
8. Clean dusts and ♥♥♥♥
9. Check RAM
10. Defrag hardisk, run checkdisk etc.
11. There are still many other things like these that I have done but doesn’t contribute in fixing anything except reducing some of the stuttering issue.
12. Update BIOS
13. Reinstall all the drivers without reformatting everything
Latest fix that I have done (Successfully eliminate the stuttering issue completely)
1. Install Windows 10 Home instead of Windows 10 Pro
2. When prompted by the installer to choose “Express settings” or “Custom settings”, choose “Custom settings” and turn off everything in the settings in there.
3. Before installing any drivers for MOBO, GPU and other stuff, try to connect to the internet to search for windows update. If your pc cannot connect to the internet in this stage, install only the drivers for wifi/lan.
4. Let windows update itself until there are no further updates.
5. Disable windows update.
6. Install all the drivers. Restart in between each installation of driver even if it doesn’t ask you to. I only installed the drivers I need instead of everything like Utilities and ♥♥♥♥ from the website.
7. Go to Windows 10 “Privacy settings” and turn off everything. (Something similar to step 2)
8. Step 1 to 7 involves working only on the SSD where the operating system is installed.
9. After doing all these, format the HDD with “Quick format” option UNTICKED. It will take a while depending on your HDD size.
10. Install steam on SSD with library on HDD.
11. Play the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game without issues.
*If you don’t have a SSD for OS or if you’re using only HDDs, find a way to format it with “Quick format” unchecked before installing windows or any other thing on it.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please feel free to reply here.
