Emulating Graphics Cards on Steam?
So not so long ago, maybe it was about a week ago, I purchased the King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition. I'm a big KoF junkie, and I've always wanted to get to play this entry more extensively since I only ever got to play it on Playstation Now (I don't have a ps3 or 360 so those options are out)

I was excited to finally get to own and play this game, but whenever I get to the loading screen after stage select the game becomes forever stuck on a black screen. It's weird because it shows no signs of lagging or freezing, it just sorta stays on the black screen refusing to proceed.

After much digging, I found out the vram on my pc (128mb supposedly) doesn't meet the minimum requirement to run KoFXIII. In fact, Vram is the only requirement my system doesn't reach, and I was able to get the game to work on my much less capable laptop (with lag) since it had enough vram. It's possible this game will refuse to run if you do not have enough vram even if it theoretically could work.

I am on an iMac running Windows 10 through the Bootcamp method. I am not positive which model of iMac it is since I got it second hand.

I've heard of emulating graphics cards to trick games into thinking you have more vram than you do in order to pass the vram check using software like 3D Analyze, but 3D analyze requires a game's executable to run and since Steam games are ran through the Steam client I do not have that option. Is there anything like 3D Analyze that works on Steam games?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it!

Doesn't matter if it's a Steam game or not, they always have a binary file. Steam only launches the games, it does not run them.

Firstly I just want to thank you for replying.

I have tried running my game through it's application file but I can't get the game to run unless I do it through the Steam software. I'm new to Steam so I'm not sure how this stuff works lol. Any suggestions?

I can't get the application/executable file to run, I've always had to run the game through the Steam softeare so I assumed that was just how you HAD to do it. Do you have any idea why I can't get my game to boot through the exe file?

My macbook air has 4gb of vram, bootcamp, because of apple and microsoft tiffing after one another, limited the amount of vram that can be used. i get a maximum of 256mb useable under windows.

That's not a "pc".
It does sounds like a pc... from the early 2000s.

What is sounds like is that you have integrated graphics, which does not have any dedicated memory. Games will not run good on these systems.

I'm able to get the game to run on a a potato of a laptop that I have but I can't get it to run on the the iMac which I've gotten to play games like DOA5 and Sims 4 just fine whereas the laptop wouldn't be able to run those smoothly.

It's not that my iMac is too slow to run the game, it's that the game has some sort of script in place that won't let it go any further if it detects that your specs do not reach the minimum requirements.

I've heard of tricking games like this into thinking your specs are higher than they really are with programs like 3D analyze, but 3D Analyze requires you to run the games executable and I've only ever gotten the game to run through the Steam application.

From what I can gather this is a streaming service that lets you play the games you already own from the cloud, right? That's actually a clever solution, I thank you!

My primary concern would be that streaming games in general is a bit of a bumpy experience, I've played the game on PsNow (with a wired connection) and my experience was mixed. There were lag spikes and the overall playing experience wasn't ideal for a fighting game like 13.

Eh, I suppose beggars can't be choosers. I might give this method s try but I'll also likely still be on the lookout for alternatives
