was I too ambitious? Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition.
Hello,

I'm working though my back catalogue of games and I've just got to metro exodus.

I downloaded the enhanced edition because I was like why would I want the worse version?

Turns out the enhanced edition has ray tracing which I guess is the new hotness because light looks more real or something; (excuse my prior ignorance please) and will only run on certain graphics cards that can do that stuff. When I go to start the game it immediately crashes after the intro video which apparently is a common thing if your card doesn't support ray tracing.

I googled my graphics card: a GeForce GTX 1070 which apparently can do a bit o' ray tracing but not that much.

Should I be able to run the enhanced edition or do I have to play the peasant worse version?

P.s I live in the countryside so it will take me weeks to download the other version which is why I haven't just downloaded it to try.

drivers up to date etc.

Thanks,
Ben

From the games store page..

Owners of Metro Exodus are also entitled to the Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition - a stunning visual upgrade that REQUIRES a Ray-Tracing Capable GPU as part of the minimum spec.

The 1070 doesn't support ray tracing in hardware. Which means it's really really slow, effectively unusable for gaming.
You just can not play with ray tracing. That has nothing to do with gaming and doesnt mean its really really slow.

Some of the 10 series have software RT. It's really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ software RT, but it's still RT.

I can read this in the post now.
You know what, I'll own up to completely missing the post you were quoting and thinking it was OP's, all while not fully "getting" what you were saying about making the choice to not use RT with a 10 series.

So, go me. I fail.

You made me able to understand the post i quoted though, by accident then. The "it" was not about the 1070, but the software RT.
