Steam Account Restriction
If, let's say, you were to get your account restricted due to chargebacks, and after a certain number of pages where it says that the restriction will be removed in 9 weeks, says that the account is restricted due do excessive chargebacks, would you have to contact your credit card provider to lift the restriction or would the restriction go away after the nine weeks. I'm asking this because I haven't seen an answer related to an account restriction where it'll be lifted via contacting your payment provider, only that it'll be lifted after nine weeks. Thanks.

Wait nine weeks and see what happens or wait nine weeks and the restriction should be lifted?

Now I have nothing to back this up, but my personal understanding was 9 weeks was how long you had to reverse the chargeback, then the restriction becomes permanent.

Most likely not. From what I've looked up, when you get the notification saying that your account is restricted due to chargebacks, it says that your account won't be restricted anymore after those nine weeks are up.

I understand, but the errors aren't always right. I'm quite certain I've seen several users in the past complain they waited the 9 weeks, but the restriction is still in effect. It's possible they had not waited the full 9 weeks, or there was some other delay, or maybe I'm just not remembering it correctly.

Not that it's my business, so don't feel obligated to answer, but is there a reason why you don't just reverse the chargeback?

I haven't gotten any chargeback, it's just that I've only recently found out about the chargebacks (I'm new to Steam) resulting in the restriction and I just wanted to know what I'd have to do if I were to get a chargeback.

A chargeback results in your account getting permanently locked if that chargeback is not reversed in 9 weeks. Basically... do not do a chargeback!

So I would have to solve the chargeback within those nine weeks or else my account would be forever restricted?

To be absolutely correct Steam *may* unrestrict your account after the 9 weeks. They have 2 chargeback restrictions the 9 week one for any chargeback ever and permanent for "excessive" chargebacks.

Most people trigger both restrictions at the same time and therefore get the warning about the 9 weeks and then it goes permanent. For some people it only lasts the 9 weeks. There is no way to tell which case you are in until after the 9 weeks.

Your safest bet is to reverse the chargeback. Note even if you don't do it inside the 9 weeks assuming your bank will still let you you can fix the restriction even after the 9 weeks of the initial restriction.

Chargebacks are never necessary with valve, and they don't happen on their own. The account will receive 1 alert page per disputed dollar amount and be locked after a while if you do not comply with releasing the funds back to valve. If you ever need a refund on something with Valve use http://help.steampowered.com/ There are criteria that has to be met in order to receive a refund, less than 2 hours playtime and 14 days.

You have 9 weeks to pay Steam the money back, if Steam haven't received full payment after 9 weeks, your account will be permanently banned.

If you pay Valve their money, you still have to wait out the remainder 9 weeks before you can regain control of your account.
