Adaptive brightness while streaming with Steam Link?

Hello, I'm using Steam Link to connect to a Panasonic plasma TV, and I notice an annoying problem where if I'm displaying content with a white background (such as streaming my desktop and using a web browser) the brightness drops to the point where the dark areas are very hard to see, in this example making text all but unreadable.

I've already turned off the adaptive settings (C.A.T.S. and AGC) in the Panasonic settings, but it doesn't seem to help. So I think the issue is on the streaming side. Can anyone suggest a fix?

After testing, it may not be adaptive after all, it may just be that the dark areas of the screen get washed out when there is too much brightness from the rest of the screen.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how did you adjust for it?
