How can I add an old retail game, which is available on steam, to steam?
Hello, I have a retail copy of Call of Duty: World at War. I got it in 2009 IIRC, and I've heard that old games can be added to steam using their CD key (if they are supported).

COD: WAW exists on steam, so it's not that the game isn't supported or something. But the problem is that the CD key isn't in the format listed in the "Activate a Product on Steam" dialogue. It's in the XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX format. As expected, when I enter the CD key, it says it's invalid.

Does this only work for games which were available on steam when they were bought?

Any ideas?

Not all retail keys can be activated on Steam.

Your retail copy most likely wasn't intended to be claimed on Steam.

That's what I guessed. At the back of the book and the case, there isn't any steam logo or anything. CoD: WaW probably didn't exist on steam back when I bought it.

Modern Warfare 2 and up is Steamworks.

World at War does not activate through Steam. Sorry.
